Hi, has anyone tried massage for easing the pain of arthritis. I would be grateful for any feedback on this. I haven't tried it yet, but I have full body arthritis, including spondylosis of the spine. Pain for me like most of you is the ruling factor of my life. Nights are a "nightmare", and excisting on very little sleep, so exhausted all the time. Someone suggested I tried a course of massage to see if it would help. :???:

    Hi Cockneygirl,
There was a post last month, suggesting a massage, I bemoaned that men were excluded from massages and DD suggested sports physio as a path. I have been twice and decided that it is worthwhile, my physio has agreed to help with a mixture of massage and physio to sort out any minor problems before they become major and accepting that a feelgood factor does assist. She says she is treating me gently and has resisted jumping on me and cracking my spine.

Once a month is enough as the hands on approach does stir things up and you need time to settle down before your next appointment. I hope this is a sensible long term approach, pity the NHS doesn't help.

    Hi
Yes I have tried massage, it was wonderful I went home and slept like a baby....the next couple of days wernt to bad.....but then I could have done with another massage....but it really was lovely.
I have OA of my spine and hips....one thing I am considering is acupuncture...I have heard such good results from people on this lovely forum...and a friend of mine has had lots of relief from it.
Have you been referred to a pain clinic at all, I was given amitriptyline to help me at night...and it has been a godsend.
    Love
    Barbara

    Hi cockneygirl

Welcome to the forum though I am sorry you have felt the need to join us and are struggling so badly with it all.

There was a thread on here a while ago about massage therapy. Alternative therapies were discussed as a discussion of the week type thing. If you go to search at the top of this page you can hunt for particular items you would like information on. I will see if I can find it and bump it up on the boards here for you. Hope it helps. I haven't tried it myself but am sure those who have will be along when they see you.

    Chris

Just seen Airwave and Barbara being able to advise here. I must be a bit slow with me typing!

Sports massage is the thing required - the therapists work deep into the muscles etc and can make a difference - but only a temporary difference. It is not the silver bullet that we all desperately seek but it can give good, temporary relief. I have PA and OA and regularly have my shoulders and neck done - despite my best efforts at posture etc using crutches all the time can have a deleterious effect on those areas and my therapist is wonderful at un-knotting my muscles! I see that someone has booted up the massage thread for you, I hope you found it interesting reading. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben
