growing pains in children

Some of you know I have been very concerned about my 7 year old as she is experiencing pain in her legs, ankles and wrists. Well have had a google and it does point to growing pains thankfully.
She has had a growth spurt recently since all her stomach problems cleared up and put on half a stone, but is still very slim. This is a common cause of growing pains, as the muscles stretch and the pain can be enough to wake a child up in the night. My little girl just comes home in severe discomfort and it seems worse as the evening goes on. To be on the safe side I have booked an appointment at GP next week.
I feel relieved now...as I was worrying that it might be arthritis.

Hi Elizabeth,
Oh flower be careful..... Mine was originally diagnosed as growing pains and so was my kid brothers... in his case it all got a bit serious when they bothered to xray him 4 years later.... it lead to him having a huge op on both legs and also new hips at 21 both sides so just ask about xrays to be sure please...
I am sure Luce has just got growing pains and with her stomach thing being ok now its given her body that chance to spurt but just its also what happened to myself and my kid brother though we were both older. I was 14 and my kid brother 16 when I got a doctor who referred me and my brother got xrays done.
It doesn't mean she hasn't got growing pains though its just it can be a blanket thing and wrong..... I am sure its juts she is on a spurt. Love and hope with a (((( )))) cris xx0 -
That is great advice Cris. I have booked the GP appointment to be on the safe side. They will be able to feel her joints to see if they hurt when touched and if they are hot. She gets sudden pains in her wrist and sometimes her ankles too and as arthritis can be genetic I am keeping a very close eye. She seemed better a month or so back but it has all returned again.
Hugs to you Cris (((( ))))

my sister had growing pains when she was younger!
She was about 10 maybe older, as she was in agony with her legs, hips and back. Mum was back and fore the GP with her every week it seemed!
She ended up leaving her dance school and gymnastic classes because of it.
They lasted a very long time i can remember, a good few years. But her height shot up, and she now has some crazy long legs lol
Hope its nothing serious hun xxxClaire

PS the weight gain is BRILLIANT to hear0 -
We have calpol and she takes this. The weight gain IS good news and her dad is 6.2 so she is taking after him I think.
Thanks Claire, She has only just gone back to gymnastics classes after a spell of ill health. Funnily enough she said her legs were fine today, no pain at all but will leave it to the GP. She is lovely but on hols this week so I have had to wait for her to come back.

Hi Elizabeth
Hope the GP can put your mind at rest and good to hear she is now feeling better after the stomach problems. I will keep my fingers crossed for you both and hope it is just those growing pains.
take care

Hi Elizabeth,
I hope the GP can help you feel less anxious about your daughter,
Right from being little i had what dr said was growing pains im not so sure now though that it was that simple. I had pains in my legs knee ankle etc, mainly when i was tired. I continued to have them through out my adult life as well. I found that paracetamol worked better than ibuprofen and that heat pad or hot water bottle worked wonders.
I would though with hindsite have asked Dr about them many years ago. My sister also got them when she was little but she grew out of them.
If your Gp says that they are growing pains and your daughter continues to have them for years then i would suggest than she sees GP again.
Hopefully she will be like my sister who grew out of them and is fine.
They can be extremely painful and would have me crawling around the house looking for paracetamol as my leg was too painful to stand.
Wishing you and your daughter the very best of luck at the GPs,
best wishes
