My consultant has taken me off Diclofenac and has now put me on Naproxin instead because the Diclofenac was giving me really bad stomach problems (heart burn etc) just wondered what peoples thoughts are on Naproxin over Diclofenac, so far its ok but its early days yet.
Hope everyone is keeping as well as can be

I was on naproxen for something a few years ago and didn't find it helpful - did you take your diclofenac with food or a meal?0

Yes i took the diclofenac with meals and plenty of water, I say so far so good but up to now it hasn't made the pain and stiffness any better but will keep monitoring it.0

In the past I've taken virtually every anti-inflammatory there is. Both Diclofenac and Naproxyn worked for me but, eventually, not for my stomach. As my wise old GP said "They market them all by saying that they won't affect the stomach. That's because they all do."
If they work, take them but, if they get to your stomach, try something else. Don't just suffer in silence. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hello,
I was on Naproxen years ago. It worked initially but I should have been put on a stomach protector too i.e. Omeprazole. I don't know if you're on this already?

I have been on Naproxen for a long while over 5yrs anyway , I have been lucky in that I have had no side-effect or stomach problems... I cannot function without it. I've tried to wean myself off it but always can feel the pain and stiffness building again.. as long as there are no problems I shall continute with it..Our worst times are always our best lessons.0

I am on opersmosol for stomach acid, will just have to see how things go. Hope they are ok and don't raise the stomach problems in the future.0

I had Celebrex (which worked well for me) but my GP put me onto Naproxen and Omeprazole for reasons of cost. The nap did nothing apart from giving me wonderful oral thrush, it was a truly beautiful sight and the taste in my mouth? Fabulous! (not). I forget to take the omep from time to time but have not had any stomach issues as yet.
I took myself off the nap for a while (as advised by the hospital) as the humira sorted out my inflammatory markers (and still does). I have now re-started the nap (as advised by the hospital) as it has been found that I have OA in my knees (as well as/instead of?) the PA, so the thrush is back with a vengeance, all food tastes weird again and the pain? Not touched. I hope it works better for you. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hello Justin
From what I have read on here, and from my own experience, everyone is different when it comes to anti-inflamms and which ones work best/cause fewest problems but the most important thing seems to be taking a stomach protecting drug alongside, as you are doing.
Diclofenac is my ant-inflammatory of choice. Having tried most of the others I have found that Diclo works best for me. That said, it does play havoc with my stomach, despite high dose stomach protecting drugs (Lanzoprazole) so I rarely take it these days - or, if I do, only for a few days at a time. Really hope that the Naproxen does the trick for you and that the Omep helps to keep the stomach probs at bay.
