Hi everyone, I haven't been here for quite sometime as I have had various things going on and don't want to bore you.

I had a wetroom fitted in November 2009 and although some would say how lucky I am, I would say that it has been the worse thing for me. Within six months, I had water leaks and my kitchen is directly underneath the bathroom. As plumbers don't want to pull up the floor understandably, they hack at my kitchen ceiling. I have had several leaks. I also have to mop up after every shower as the water dosen't all drain way. I change mop every 3-4 weeks. I have also managed to slip on the non-slip flooring after a shower and that was wearing caterpillar boots. These are just a few problems I face. I am trying to fight these with the council.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has a wetroom and got problems they have had.

Thanks.................Eve

Hi Cris, Hi Lynn...........thanks for the welcome back. Thought I would post and did wonder if anyone would remember me lol.

Im really unwell at the moment and as you know, stress only makes the symptoms worse. Due to get another steroid injection on 28 June and to be honest I can't wait. Also have lots of appointments coming up, with rheumy, surgeon, physio...........etc etc etc. Nice of you both to post.

Lynn, I can only say that if you were thinking of installing a wet room then it would be better on a ground floor rather than upstairs because of leaks. Also for it to have a full shower screen because it somehows splashes through shower curtains. Also they can be difficult to pull. If you do go ahead, ensure they listen to your needs and how you would like it as they didn't discuss my needs, I was told how the layout was going to be and it dosen't work for me. I find it really hard to keep it clean.

    Love to you both xxxxxxxxxx

The only wetrooms I have had experience of have been on the ground floor. Putting one on a first floor would seem to be asking for trouble, unless the installers are the very, very best. Which yours appear not to be. Did they truly understand the concept of a wet room? Possibly not.

I hope the steroid helps and I wish you well. DD

Hi , Eve , don't think we've met as I'm still fairly new on here ; I had a wet room fitted nearly 2 years ago and can honestly say ; not a single problem, which is probably not what you wanted to hear ! I am in a ground floor flat but mine was installed on the instructions of my OT and with my needs and wishes fully listened to and implemented . There is a special non slip floor ( which actually works ) and a comfy shower chair , I also have numerous support bars to allow for easy moving to wash . If yours isn't working as hoped , you must keep badgering them until it's sorted and working to help you rather than causing so much stress . Jillyb

Thanks for the support girls xxxxxxxxxx

Hi DD and Jilly, no we haven't met. Yes, I agree ground floor wet rooms tend to have less problems if any. Glad to hear you haven't had problems with yours Jilly. Mine was carried out by someone appointment from the council under my OTs instructions too. However, they didn't fully discuss the layout, and unfortunately I am at either corner, either shower or handwash basin. I suffer with claustrophobia which dosen't help at either corner. I use the disabled seat provided which helps, however, the rust on the legs is unbelievable....it splashes the rust on to the floor and walls which pees me off. I have trouble pulling the shower curtains at times and some of the hooks have gone down the shower plug hole and can't find replacement. I was about to sit on the seat provided when one of the legs fell off..........so ikkle me is butt naked, kneeling, getting wet to try and screw the leg back on......not quite the simple life I imagined when it was the only thing offered. Like previously mentioned, these are just some of the problems ......too many to mention. I have spoken to the council and due to see my GP tomorrow to try and discuss this and get his support. The women from the council wouldn't come out to look at it or discuss it, so I said I would stop mopping the floor and should I slip on the wet floor again, I will record it. I intend to fight it........even if I can get them to put a full shower screen rather than shower curtains. Fingers crossed.

    Love to you all xxxxxxxxxx

This is disgusting you need to speak to CAB about getting help fighting this and make sure you get your GP to record any falls you have to support your claim. My husband is a contractor and has put in many wet floor bathrooms, none of which have had any problems. It seems shoddy workmanship is more to blame here. Get another contractor who specialises in wet floors to come out and inspect it for you giving a report in the faults. THat should arm you to throw in the councils faces.

    Good luck with it

I am also appalled that you are having so many problems with your wet room. Theresa is right , you need to get it checked out by someone who knows what they are doing. Obviously the council aren't employing suitably qualified staff! I would complain about the leaks and the slippery flooring as this should not be happening. Then ask for a shower screen and a safer seat!
They will have to repair your kitchen ceiling. We recently had to do ours as like Lynn we had a small leak, which slowly soaked into the insulation and finally collapsed. Make sure they paint it too!

If you're having that many problems they definitely did it wrong. Wetrooms are installed on 1st and higher floors all the time with no problems. TBH they may need to rip it out and do it again if its not draining properly they didn't get the falls in the floor right. Unfortunately this means they need to take the floor out not hack at it from below.
I design these things all the time and it takes a combination of properly designing them and installing them correctly and they work absolutely fine.

Kick them to sort it out - if the council installed it start pointing out the likelihood of a fall and that that would lead to a claim against them for shoddy workmanship
If you had it done - it'll be harder but go back to the contractor and make a lot of fuss.

    Hope you get it sorted

Thank you all so much for your support, it's great to share both good and bad experiences with wet rooms and to get ideas.

Thanks Theresa, great idea...had not thought of that, will try and find someone who would be willing to come and look and of course write a report.

I went to see my GP and he was not happy that my previous OT was passing the buck as it were as I have had to call another number and request an OT appointment which I did today and awaiting response. My psycho-therapist however contacted my today and is doing a support letter, so I do hope they listen. This is affecting my psychologically as well as physically, not to mention the stress of every so often having contractors coming out repairing problems due to leaks.

My kitchen ceiling for hacked in an L shape (quite big) but pleased to say it was reskimmed and painted. Should it occur again, I will refuse to have it hack because, for the works to be completed, it took 3 weeks and have all kinds of crap falling while I was trying to cook.

Just want to say that all your support is fully appreciated and Im taking all your ideas on board, including the possibly of contacting CAB as suggested.

    Love to you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
