When does OA in neck become cervical spondylosis?

Hello,

I've been diagnosed with 'age related' wear and tear in my neck-I'm 41, is this common then? Anyway, whenever I try and find info on it, CS keeps getting mentioned. Does OA have to be severe to then become CS?
Or are they the same? I'm confused,

Magenta x

    Hi Magenta

I have a feeling that neck osteoarthritis is also known as cervical spondylosis.

I beleive, although I could be wrong. It is when the degeneration causes symptoms. It is normal to have degenerative changes in the neck and spine.

However if you experience pain, or other symptoms then it becomes cervical spondylosis. Thats what I was told anyway.

I have cervical spondylosis and inflammatory arthritis and the cervical spondylsosis is far more troublesome. I am 39 and have had it for a few years now. I have a lot of symptoms connected to it unfortunately.

    Hiya,

That's what I thought. My gp was the person that said I had age related wear and tear and she doesn't seem to think there's a problem. I've been having problems with my neck for years but everyone kept saying it was my jaw. It's painful and I'm sure it's partly responsible for the numbness and tingling in my hands but no-one's interested. I guess it's another thing I'm going to have to keep complaining about!

    Thanks,

    Eileen x

Hi, I've got what the same thing and I'm having a MRI tomorrow to check on the nerves. They have called it all the names you mention over the last few years! Its so confusing and I wish they would just use one name!!!

    Hi

Over the past few weeks I've had problems with my neck - it always seem to be achy - I keep ignoring it and blaming it on my pillows. The pain in my back seems to get worse. I want a new body for Christmas!

You do seem rather young - my specialist told me that some folks have bad joints and it seems I'm one of them along with quite a few other people.

Could you ask you GP for some advice?

I hope you get some answers and start to feel a bit brighter soon.

    Regards
    Sharmaine

    Hi Eileen,

Its the same thing as near as flower just in the neck they call it that I think cus of extras bone growth but then they say I have the spondylitis as well... that means the oa and pa have gone to war in my neck.

this age related stiff I was told some of my spine was age related when the operated o it in my 20's so they do like that phraze eh?

Hope its not too uncomfortable and that you have had a good weekend? Love and a ((((( ))))) Cris xx

    Hi all,

I'm getting used to my wonky neck now, knowing what not to do. I can't even 'flick' my fringe out of my eyes without setting it off. It clunks all the time and on my left side, I can push bones back into place. I'll get my jaw sorted then go back to the docs to get them to do something.

Cris, I hate the whole 'age related' phrase! I'm having a good weekend-even though I'm working. Hope you are too?
Thanks everyone for the support
