NSAIDs

Hey everyone, hope you're all as well as can be.
I have a question for the more knowledgeable amongst you - which is the best NSAID & the one least likely to burn a hole in my gut!
I've just started taking diclofenac after months of putting it off and I know long term use of that can be bad for your tum. Is the e/c version better? I have the standard slow release ones.
Thanks!

Hi keith
diclos were my favourite...till they started to naff up me belly
You can always ask for some omeprazole/lanzoprazole to go with them to PREVENT belly issues??
what about that?
I now have arcoxia which is a cox2 and easier on the stomach, but not so good for other things...the heart l think so l only take it when needed
Hope you are doing ok?
Love

Thanks for that Toni......
Yep, I'm doing okay, pretty much the same as before. Have started taking the diclo because my little finger has swollen & is quite painful. Nothing compared to what a lot of the other people on here have to suffer through so I can't really complain.
Saw my rheumatologist yesterday, blood tests are all normal, gonna stick with 4 tabs of sulfazine until the end of July & then discuss either upping to 6 tabs or adding in meth, dependent on my symptoms.
How's yourself? I haven't been around the forums for a while now, did I miss anything important? Has some clever chap come up with a cure yet!?

Hey Keith, So you missed the guy with the cure? The rest of us have all gone running off to see if we're too late for the Olympics. Never mind. I'm sure he'll be back soon.
NSAIDs are a necessary evil and everyone has their own pet likes/hates. Diclofenac seems one that works for many and is relatively easily tolerated but I'm afraid it's trial & error - and possibly a stomach protector.
Hope you find one that does the job for you quickly. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Keith,
Asked my Hubby about this one. He says Diclofenac is the lesser of all of those. Also if you take on a regular basis Zoton, which will help with your stomach. The reason I ask him is he has RA and OA. You will find him under the Lonegunman.

Hi Keith, hope you are doing ok down there in the sarff Rkid.
I've been on the slow release diclofenic for a good few months now, firstly with the full wack of tramadol, that dint touch the pain I'm afraid, so now I'm on them with the 50mg/hr fentanyl patches, things are great on a night, sleeping very well, but still getting a lot of breakthrough pain though so I don't think the diclofenic are doing too much to be honest.. I'm going to go see about having it all reviewed at some point.. From the beginning though they insisted I took lanzoprazole as a stomach protector, they've worked quite well but I've the added complication of IBS too, lol...
I do hope they work for ya matey.. We all vary so much when it comes to our meds eh?
Be well..Me-Tony

Hi
I think they all have their pros and cons
I'm on the full dose of diclofenic....slow release
I'm also on omeprazol for my stomach.....to line it
Can think of better things to line it with LOL

Hello Keith
So glad blood tests were all normal. That's really good news!
Diclo works well for me but I would certainly go for the pink, coated ones if you can and you should definitely be prescribed a stomach protecting drug (Lanzoprazole, Omeprazole) alongside. You may have to try a few NSAIDs to find the one which works best for you though. My understanding is that they should be taken regularly for best effect but, I find I get stomach pains after a few days so I only take them periodically now.
Hope it helps Keith.

+1 with others here Keith. Take Diclofenac, pink slow release, alongwith Omeprazole. No undue side effects. Current bloods borderline and expect to start whatever dmard the rhummie recommends in a couple of weeks.

Hi Keith,
I personally couldn't get on with diclos, so my Rheumy started me on Celebrex, with lanzoprazole for me it's been great. Obviously that's just me, but I know a few others that are also doing really well on it.
I hope that's helped Keith, all the best xxx'grá agus solas'

I had celebrex, which I liked because it worked and didn't need the stomach protector, then for reasons of cost I was put onto naproxen and omeprazole. The nap did very little inflammation wise prior to starting humira (though I have re-started it to try and help the OA in my knees even though my CRP and ESR are below 5) so I am back on that treadmill of two extra pills.
You may well find that even tho diclo has the overwhelming vote here you cannot tolerate it. We are all different in what works and what doesn't and in how we react. Good luck with whatever you try and I hope it helps. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
