Blue Badge Query

Hi
Im going to ask a question which may seem elementary to some but im a bit confused so will ask you lot.
In our town there was car parks, council ones which you could park in, not pay and be there for the 3 hrs the badge lets you have. Now i went to go park in one today and it said "blue badge holders please purchase ticket and display your badge"....Now what is confusing me is when display badge, put 2 halves of it up, clock and number, hologram.....Now then if i pay do i just display half with number, hologram? Im thinking i do and therefore the clock is going to be pretty redundant...
Am i correct or not? Just want to clarify..

Hi Elaine
I would contact your council with regard to this as it was my understanding that you could park anywhere which is council owned/ highways owned regardless of how long unless it stipulated that there was a time limit (double yellow lines etc) and it was free of charge.
There is only one place I know of in my town that charges even if you are disabled and that is a private car park.
I know each area has different restrictions for blue badge holders so I am not sure exactlyJaki0 -
Hi Jaki
Well it used to be free for 3 hours no hourly charge...But now im not so sure?
Ive looked on sldc website and it tells me naff all...May have to ask traffic warden next time i see them..

Hi
In the good old days u could park in Council car parks for free if displaying a badge. However, I live in Bournemouth and all council car parks have to be paid for unless u have a tax exempt vehicle.
I suppose its a sign of the times
Sad but true0 -
Hi, Yes I think you would be sensible to ring your council....they all seem to vary. Council and highways.....are mostly free here and unless a time is stipulated you dont need your clock {as far as I know}althoughn saying that I always put both up anyway to be on the safe side.......even if I park somehwere that doesnt look like a disabled bay or on a street that it isnt obvious that you have to put your badge up....I do anyway Nothing like being safe.
Private car parks you have to read everything here....some let you park free and some dont.

You always have to check in all carparks what the criteria is.Some you can only display your blue badge in the correct disabled bay others you have to pay as well as being in a disabled bay. Always read the signs at the paypoint. Different councils have different rules I don't mind paying I always like the disabled bay because of the space for getting in and out of the car ordinary bays are just not wide enough. Lets face it they are a godsend and I really value mine0

Hiya
Well as ive said earlier i dont have a problem paying for parking I just want to make sure ive got the right stuff displayed in my windscreen or else mr traffic warden will be only too happy to slap a nice fine on me??
Also as i said above our car parks have been the same for ages and i dont remember anything being put in local papers about changes....I also know about different councils...etc..I love my badge but like eveyone else i dont want a fine for doing wrong when i dont know i ahave done so...

Hi Elaine

The BB does give you the option of parking on double yellow lines if there are no other restrictions, which I do regularly now.
There are now, reportedly, 2.4million BB in circulation, + all the forgeries, misused and abused ones, no wonder parking is an issue.0 -
Did anyone see the bit on TV this morning about blue badges It was the "Dom" programme......

Hi,
I've been going to hospital twice a week for the past 3 weeks and once a week previously ....so I do appreciate not having to pay.
The other thing about hospitals.....our particular hospital you have to pay when you go in {some of them you pay on your way out}and its hard to know how long you are going to sit.....oK if you have someone with you that can go in and out and feed the machine
Lucky you not getting out of bed until that time .......I'm up about 6.30am or 7am otherwise I'm sorer than I am at that time
