For the past 5 years my ankles have swelled like footballs, going to bed was so painful as by night time my feet were so swollen. anyway I have just had a flare up with the old RA which I have had since age 2 so had it 44 years so far, and rheumatologist talked me into going back on steroids, 10mg a day for a week, then 7.5 so on so on, anyway first week and have not needed all my water medication, usually take spironolactone and furosemide, my ankles have stayed down, never had such slim feet in years and actually noticed I'm not as bloated......this makes no sense to me as usually bloating is the thing with steroids, anyone any suggestions why this is occurring and will it last.....I'm trying to make an appointment to see GP, but it would be faster getting a ticket at the olympic games as I cannot seem to get past the biatches on the front desk, they seem to know who is ill and who isn't!!!! and who has priority grrrrrrrrrr

Steroids reduce inflammation on joints by thinning tissue etc. The 'moon face' etc side effect can occur after some time if one is taking them regularly (I have been on them for over five years but I haven't had that side effect, mine's more of a beer face! ) but it sounds as though your swelling has been reduced thanks to the steroids. Rejoice and enjoy, I hope it lasts a while. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
