As some of you know, I've only been home from hosp since Mon eve after having a LTHR. Tues was ok, was stiff, swollen & tender & sore which I expected but manage with the paracetamol & ibuprofen which the hosp told me to take to keep the pain at bay. I was still doing the stretching exercises, walking, sitting and resting, just sometimes felt it was abit difficult at times.

Early hours of Wed morn, started feeling the pain increasing, took the med at just after 1am but it didn't help, couldn't sleep at all, by 6am my leg had swollen even more & I felt really hot and I was in tears with the pain. My poor son had to witness me in this state, altho he's 17yrs he did look uncomfortable with it, but still helped me get out of bed so I was able to struggle to the loo. However I started to feel sick, dizzy and light headed and the pain not letting up at all.

Husband called the surgery, they phoned back and said dr will come out after surgery. He came after 2pm, done the checks and felt it wasn't an infection but where my leg had swollen so much it had affected the nerves which were triggering the pain throughout. He has put me back on my original pain killers that I had before the surgery which are cocodamol and diclofenac. Last night was the best sleep I have had for a long time and today I have felt alot brighter and everything is back on track

What a big difference it is without the pain.

Sorry if you are suffering at the moment big hugs to you all.

Sue x

    Hi Sue

I am so pleased that you feel much better all round now. It is really scary isn't it, when you are in such pain and haven't long had an op and left the hospital. Good on your husband for phoning the surgery and the doc turning up and putting you at ease, explaining where the pain was coming from and sorting your meds. Your son also came up trumps too. It may not have been so good for him to see you in so much pain, I know what you mean, but it is all experience and he coped well in the cirumstances. Think of it this way, y ou have looked after him well for 17 years so I am sure he did not mind helping you out, even if a bit embarrasing/upsetting.

I hope you have yet another good night,

    Take care,

    Elna x
The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

hi Sue hope you are doing ok now , I had a bad reaction to my TWR last Nov and ended up in A&E X rays and tests being done turned out to be a reaction to a/b's and a blood clot formed under a too tight bandage big blisters everywhere on my arm, frightened the living daylights out of me , so having my toe op 2 weeks ago I was so worried but so far so good had stitches out today which was embedded in the swelling good thing it was totally numb, having an op is scary at the best of times so we all need to know what to do like Sues hubby did

    Hi Dippyhips,

I am surprised that they sent yu home with only that medication, i left with all the meds I was on before. Sorry to hearthat you had to go through that pain, I know what that feels like and It is not very nice at all. Glad that you are starting to feel better now. Thinking about that it must have been the one thing that my hospital did do right.

Glad you are feeling better - Pain is not nice more so when it stops you sleeping well. The cocodamol and diclofenac will do a much better job from paracetamol and ibuprofen.

    Hi Dippy,
What a shock that must have been....just after your THR.....I know {I'm sure I wasnt the only one} who worried after the THR......and when my wound started leaking I went to the hospital.....they decided to put another dressing over the top rather tan expose it to the air. Only telling you this to let you know how scared i was simply becaues I had just had a THR
Anyway glad you are feeling much better now and if you have a decent nights sleep you can cope with anything.
    Love

    Hi Sue

Glad you are back on track after that scary experience.

I'm surprised they sent you home with just paracetamol and ibuprofen.. I was sent home with codeine and diclofenac (despite telling the staff I couldn't tolerate codeine and that diclofenac caused me stomach problems!) - the staff emphasied that I had had a big operation and that just paracetamol would not be strong enough to cover the pain..

Hope you continued to make good progress now.. however, I did find that those early weeks were definitely 'one step forward, two steps back;.. some days I felt things were really improving and then the next day I would feel more pain again...

    Hi Sue,

That sounds so painful and glad they have helped you now. With luck it will all go according to plan now and you will not have near as much pain again. Cris x
