On behalf of a family member DWP Medical Note Issues.

Well this goes back to last July when my dad had his personal capability assessment for his Incapacity Benefit which he got a letter saying that everything was fine and that he no longer had to send in sick notes and that the DWP had wrote a letter to his GP to explain this, Well despite getting the letter to say not to put in any more sick notes/medical certs he now gets a reminder letter to submit another medical cert, He said it was strange as he re-called the letter telling him that he passed his medical assessment last year and not to put any more in so as a precaution he went to his doctor for another only to go to his GP who then told him that they have a letter from DWP last year instructing them not to issue any more sick notes and that they could not give him one.
So now he is worried and calls DWP to explain all this only to be told that if he has had a letter to say submit another medical certificate then he has to do it as they still need to see medical evidence, then when he tells them about the letter he received from the same office around a year back saying not to put any more in they told him that they cant even go back that far to see what letter they actually sent out and would not acknowledge even sending the letter out to my dad or his GP, surely they can see letters of what they have sent out.
He was just told it was down to computer systems generating letters, his GP has clearly got the letter last year from DWP saying that he had a personal capability test on the grounds of Incapacity and was advised to no longer issue medical certs to him and as such he has a letter saying the same...that they have also wrote to the GP to explain this and not to send in any more.
What can he do now - The local office have told him he can send in copies of the letters but surely they can see what they have been sending out to GP`s and vis versa etc..
They did say that it was unusual to get a letter saying not to put any more medical certs in and then get a reminder letter to submit another one all this from the same office/address. All they have said is that his claim for incapacity ends on 1st June which is the date the last medical cert runs out and explained that no further payments would be allowed until a further medical note has been submitted.
All this worry is making him feel very anxious and very worried about what to do next or what will happen next as he and his GP have letters explaining not to submit any more but yet they cant see anything on their system all to say that they cant access that part of the system but will make a note of the situation.
They did let him know that his claim will be transferred soon to E.S.A and that his file will soon be passed to a company called Atol which is even more bizzare as I thought these people did holiday insurance or something! and that he would have to undergo a further medical soon.
They even told him how everything is going to change again from 2015 to change to a Universal credit what a bizzare situation and process to change things.
Sorry for rambling on - Just wondered if anyone else has been in a similar situation.

Hi Justin
Sorry to hear that your father and your family are going through this difficult situation. Unfortunately I have not been in this situation but as a thought could you send the original letter, stating that you do not need to supply medical certificates, back to the DWP as proof that you do not need to send the certs.
I know it might be difficult to do but either that or contact your local MP to get involved. Its not fair that your dad has to deal with this stress.
I wish I could give you more advice but good luck with thisJaki0 -
Hi Justin
Sorry to hear about the problem - these bureaucratic loops seem to be interminable. I agree with Jaki - get your MP involved. He can get things moving from the top and this often results in a senior official getting in and sorting it out - the day to day staff are just dominated by the computer which is causing the problem in the first place.
Good luck
