Well Ladies - I've seen the Gynaecologist and I've got more questions than answers!
To cut a very long story short yes I'm in need of 'some' surgical intervention as I have a form of endometriosis. I've been given 3 choices all of which involve a general anaesthetic. 1. A D and C and a mirana coil fitted 2. A Dand C and a womb ablation or 3. An abdominal hysterectomy. Choice 1 - not going to happen - had one of those coils fitted before ended up in A&E haemmorhaging. No2 is having the lining of my womb cauterised so is a possibility and 3 is the only 'cure'. Gynae doesn't want to do 3 really because of Anti-TNF and my immune system. So I've spoken to the nurses at my TNF clinic and they say the risk of infection will be minimal because of coming off it for 4 weeks before hand. The nurse said not to let the TNF have any bearing on my decision. So now I've got to decide which way to go. So any of you out there had an ablation done? How was the recovery? I don't know whether to go straight for the hysterectomy because there is a chance of the effects of the ablation only lasting for a few months.
Any advice as always very welcome.
Thanks

Hi Kate,
I had a hysterectomy after having a prolasped womb I was 32 . Id had pains and heavy periods for ages and couldnt cope with it anymore, so I was very relieved that I had this done. It solved my problems straight away, I know I had a different situation than yours but its the only thing that worked for me!

Oooh Kate :???:
I have no experience of this at all...
however for what it's worth....
the D+C may be worth a try, but only a stop-gap - sticking plaster...ok if age will be about to solve the issue????
can they not do the 'other' the 'other' way?? (you know what l mean?! ) quicker recovery l think.
l tend to be' in for a penny'...if you know what l mean

Hi Kate
I am 3 years on from my ablation this month mine was for fibroids, I am very happy at present. It did take me a while to recover from the ablation though I was in alot of pain for mearly 2 weeks even though they said it would be 2 days ish. I had the same problem with the mirena coil though I had to be put under for that and had pain for a week then the bleeding thing fell out  so it was ablation or hysterectomy. It doesnt work for everyone though. sorry not much help really it all cmes down to choice. I just wasnt ready for the hysterectomy yet.
My friend has severe endemetriosis and was told she would never have kids she was 29 she started acupunture at a chinese acupuncturist and it seemed to help for a while and she now has 2 kids. She cant afford the acu treatments anymore and it has returned with a vengeance. Again may not be relevant to you

Hi All,
Thanks for all the advice and I have made my decision about which way I want to go with my surgery. I have spoken to the Anti-TNF clinic, my Hubby and my Sister at some length and I think I'll be going along the route of having the ablation. So I'll ring the Gynae next week and try to arrange for the next step.
I'll keep you informed.
Thanks again.
Love Kate xx0 -
good luck Kate

Hi All,
Well I am booked in to have an Ablation on 22nd of August. I could have had it sooner but I've booked a holiday for Sarah and myself at the end of July so this means I can go to Majorca and then come off the Anti-TNF for the next four weeks. It also means I can come back off my hols and make sure everything is up to date with work.
So fingers crossed (if you possibly can) for a happy outcome.

Hi Katekelly..
I too have endometriosis.. Have suffered for over 12 yrs, i am 31..
I have numerous surgiries.. And was put on every contraceptive method but not much worked.. At 29 i had hysterectomy minus my left ovary so i didn't go into early menopause...I was great for 6 months then my symptoms have came back..
My advice to you is do not rush into hysterectomy as it is NOT a cure for endometriosis.. I would opt for Ablation(which i see you have) If done thoroughly it can be very succesful..
I wish you well and if you need to pm me then feel free to be happt to answer any questions..xxxxTracyxx0 -
Hi, I'm sorry you have to face these choices, I had endo and a hystorectomy at 30, but that was a had decision which I made with the help of my husband and doctor, I was very glad and always have been, but thats me. You'r different and have
different. Their is a very good web site called endometrosis-uk which has lots of information on it. I used it when I had my cyst problems a while back. I don't know if they would help you, but they are set up to help people with endo problems.
Good luck, Sue xxx0 -
Good plan there Kate
hope you and Sarah have a lovely holiday.

Hi,
I've just joined here as my arthritis was just diagnosed today, but if its any help I had the ablation 3 years ago due to heavy periods and its one of the best choices I ever made! To date I still have not had any bleeding at all and as a day case I was home the same day. It changed my life from someone constantly needing to be near a loo and not even watching comedies as I was too worried to laugh!
Glad to see you have decided to have it and good luck.
