What a day we went to the car as normal went to set off and was going along the road when all of a sudden we heard a massive bang under the car, Looked in the mirror and there was a cat wriggling around in the road then it got up and ran away wobbling all over, the wife was driving and was upset but I said we never ran over it as we would of seen it.
Apparently the cat lives over the road from us and its owner was not in - Local residents managed to catch up with the cat and a passing vet stopped (how lucky that was) and said that there was blood from its mouth and it may of broken its jaw so off we went 8 miles to the vets emergency service who checked it over and confirmed that there apeared to be no broken legs/hips internal damage and told us that if we had run over it then the cat would not be able to run off and said we may have stunned it.
The vet have taken the cat in and gave it some pain releif but on ringing them before they say it is doing fine and its jaw is fine as it has been eating dried biscuits and drinking.
What a releif, the owner is away and is going to collect the cat tomorrow.
Now i was curious to see how it managed to be under the car so looked under the bonnet and there was the evidence...There is an engine under tray on our car that protects the bottom of the engine from debris flying up from the road and it was this tray what confirmed the cat had been there (paw prints all over it) and cat fur so it must of been on this undertray and then fell off onto the road which confirmed that we never run over it, the vet said its paws had oil on them.
Just glad its doing ok as a few people were suprised that I stopped saying you dont have to for cats, but as an animal lover how could anyone do this
The vet said there would be no charges which I thought was good, but I think the cat has certainly used a few of its 9 lives.
Least its ok - But what a day. The wife is still re-playing it over in her head.

Hi Justin
How awful for you and the Mrs - I'd be replaying it all in my head too. A few years ago, I was driving along and saw someone hit a cat which had just run into the road. That person stopped too, but not in time and the poor cat died.
This also reminds me of the time I hit a lad on his bike. I was driving no more than 15mph as I had just come round a corner and the boy decided to cross the road without looking. Thankfully, he "only" broke his arm and the parents or police didn't blame me but I couldn't stop shaking and my husband had to come and collect me as I couldn't drive. I had to force myself to get back into the car the next day and drive to work

Hi Justin
The cat certainly used up one of its nine lives, but it was lucky that you were so kind and took it to be checked at the vet's. Many people wouldn't have bothered about a cat, which is sad. Cats always love to curl up in warm places, so maybe it was enjoying the warmth from the engine. It might go back there again, so you might need to check before you drive off another time.

Good for you for getting vet treatment for the cat. Shame the owners who were 'away' didn't make suitable arrangements for the animal's care in their absense.
Cats will find what they think is a safe and secure place, if they don't have somewhere of their own. Poor little thing must have been so scared when his/her 'safe nest' started moving at speed :eek:0 -
Gosh Justin that must have been a shock, how awful for someone to say you dont have to stop for cats.....you did well and Im sure the owners will understand.
Cats will get anywhere...hopefully it wont do it again :roll:Love

Good for you Justin for stopping and helping the cat. I have my bubba and love him to bits! If anything ever happens to him (which is very unlikely as he has a fear of cars!) I would hope they would take him to vets (that in it's self is funny as he has a fear of getting in cars & vets!! he ripped dad to pieces when he had to go cause of a bad tooth, their was blood dripping on reception desk!) I'm glad the cat is alright and shame on the owners for not sortting someone or somewhere for the cat to stay. My next door neighbour always looks after bubba and spoils him rotton! When we get home he sulks. I know you & your OH must be in shock but you are like hero's for making sure the cat got treatment straight away. Amanda, (bubbadog).0

The cat is now back home safe and sound but as said it may have gone in the engine compartment because it never had anywhere to go. Least its ok now. We are both a lot calmer now.
Off to the same vets later with our golden retriever who has mouth cancer and its un-operable. He is dehydrated so going to get him checked over with the same vet that we took the cat to - Its been a busy few days.0 -
Hi
Just to say I do hope your dog will be ok, you must be so worried.Love

Sorry to read about your day - glad you and your Wife are calmer now - i know this isn't animal related - but on Boxing Day my Dad fell down the stairs with my Nephew on him and he landed with such a thud and like your wife with the cat - I still replay that in my head because I was so scared that something may have happened to one of them - fortunately they were both ok - but my Sister in Law had her heart in her mouth and feared the worst until she saw my Nephew.

I know what you mean about falling down stairs our oldest when he was 4 fell down stairs from half way up, he was shook up and still had a firm grip of his chrisps that he had at the time (he would not let them go ) Scares you though when ever anything like that happens.
Our dog got given some doggy zantac tablets to calm his tummy down as he had diarrhoea that had blood in, he was also given some special tins of dog food and some re-hydration powder.
We think its a side effect of his pain releif he is on something called Metacam and we think its this that caused the upset so was told not to give him it but he is looking like he is in a bit of pain now (keeps darting about) so will call the vet to see if they can give him something else thats a bit easier regards the side effects.
He is well in himself and just trying to find the right ballence of meds for him. Our house is like a chemist.0 -
Oh Justin
l hadn't seen this but must say what a lovely man you are
thank you on behalf of all cat onwers for doing such a good thing.

Thanks Toni, the vet has put our dog on Tramadol till Thursday to see how he goes I am hoping that he does not need that most of the time.
We know that when he cant cope we have to make the heart wrenching decision but for now he is still himself just having to get his meds right.
He still barks at the postman though0
