You are spot on Del...
I have nothing but the utmost respect for our soldiers & my heart goes out to them all and their families, but.. As you say, the word HERO seems to just be a way of the press grabbing attention...
I hate the press these days... And don't get me started on the poor use of the English language when it comes to news reporters etc...
Saying things like..
'more healthy'
'more cloudy'

Grrr...

I agree with you , the newspapers only want good Headlines Hero sounds good .
We lost my husbands brothers grandson ,he was killed in Iraq aged 19, blown up in a landrover doing his job along with 2 others . He loved the job. We dont think he was a hero he was doing what he loved but we wish the govenment would have given them the right equipment to do the job he would still be here if they had done .
I dont think we should be there at all but thats something else . ..........jillyx

a true hero does not want to be in the spot light and acts with out thinking it part of who they are. some times they do not even know they have it in them until life throws something at them that makes them show there true colours.
to keep going back to a war zone must be so hard 6 months there and year back then go again that must take a lot of guts time and time again.
who is to say what makes a hero not me not you and not the papers who write a load of rubbish val
