We had an enormous thunderstorm yesterday afternoon The lightning must have hit the pylon connecting our houses to the main supply It briefly knocked the power off When it came back on all the light we had was a dim glow which brightened a bit thendimmed again.Non of rhe appliances fridge telly etc would work then we had an angry buzzing noise from the box with the trip switches in it.So we turned off at the mains and went to bed.
This morning Iberdrola sent an electrician to check it out He put a meter onthe electric meter and found the voltage was just 150 instead of 230.He rang the company and they sent men and ladders out and fixed it in 5 minutes. Has any one else experienced a weird power outage like that?It took 16 hours to get them out :?: :?: :?: :?:

Tis a tad strange that one eh?
I'm no sparky so have not got a clue about these things. I'm about as dim as your light bulbs were, haha..
Glad you got it sorted out though.

It's just damaged your RCD box I guess, the power surge must have been very strong, thank god you had it if you'd had old 1950's or 60's wiring your house could have gone up.

That is strange, we once had a power surge during a thunderstorm and it hit the satellite dish and blew our free sat box up as the current came through the dish cable and into the back of the unit.

I have also know years ago when people used to have the old 56k dial up modems to get on the internet that lightening can hit telephone poles and destroy the modem in a computer.

Least you managed to get things back to normal.
