I don't think I've relayed my story on here and thought I would now that I've got some news. This could be long so am gonna try to put it in a nutshell!
I was born with bi-lateral talipes, severe, before the days of the new methods were developed. Had about 6 surgeries and 4 manipulations, spending many of the years before I was 10 yrs old in calipers or plaster casts. When I was discharged at age 11 I was told that arthritis in later life was inevitable. Zoom ahead to 2010 and I was in huge amounts of pain in both feet but particularly the right one. Went to my wonderful orthopaedic surgeon who performed a triple arthrodesis and big toe osteotomy on Oct 12th. Had a large haematoma develop on the incision site which after 2 weeks went necrotic down to the bone. After 8 months of weekly dressings, it's decided that it's not healing. So on May 3rd 2011 went back to hospital and, under general anaesthetic, had a debridement. Am going for weekly dressings again, but, finally, it looks like it's healing!! So, today he asked to look at my other foot and asks me how it feels. I say that it is giving me a lot of pain, not just from the arthritis but from tendonitis in the achilles. Next week I'll have x-rays of both feet to a) check the healing of my right one and b) decide the fate of my left one.
I'm a bit scared but keen to get rid of the pain.

You certainly been through the mill..
Only you and your doctor will know what is right for you, if you bothe feel it is in your best interests to have it done then that would probably be the best option..You obviously have had first hand experience of many ops so you kind of know what to expect so i suppose that slightly eases your anxiety levels.. Maybe you should speak to family and see what they say too, the more support you have the better you will feel..
I wish you well ..Let us know how you get on..xxxxTracyxx0 -
aww sounds painful, hope you get it sorted soon xxx good luck xxlove and hugs0

Hi Sue,
I can understand that you are scared. But you've already had so many operations you do know what to expect. I think you.ve been really brave going through all of them.
Please let us know when next week you have your appointment for the x-rays etc and we can arrange pocket duties for you. Just to let you know you are not alone.

Hey, good haikus, Cloud9. Maybe we should have a Haiku sticky in addition to the poetry one as they seem popular.
Sorry, can't advise re the ops. You've been through the mill a few times though, haven't you? I'm sure you'll make the right decision. Good luck.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thanks all so much. I'm not really nervous yet as I know that surgery on my left foot is inevitable. There would have been no point in going through what I did on the right one if I wasn't prepared to have the left one done. Having said that I will be very nervous on the day of surgery. I have total faith in my consultant. Apart from being extremely skilled, very highly thought of and friendly, he's absolutely gorgeous!!! :P And every time I take him some kit kats, I get a cuddle. Hehe........this makes my weekly visits bearable!
You're all so kind and supportive....thankyou.Sue (Cloud9)0
