I recently had blood test to check how i was getting on with hydroxychloroquine..
After chasing after my results that hadn't even been checked yet i recieved a note form my GP in my prescription delivery?? bizzarre.. On this note the only bit i could understand was need to see Gp(this was highlighted in Flourescent pink) the rest was a scribble of handwriting... i rang chemist and doctors surgery no one knew anything about it.. great.. i tried then to work it out myself.. it said something about switching to something else and he also stopped my doclofenac...?? I then got a phonecall to say i needed to go and have full blood count, again i tried to ask about this note from gp.. nothing was on my notes.. so was wondering if i carry on with diclofenac or not??
Well i had my bloods done yesterday, took my note GP sent and nurse confirmed it was for me to switch to another tablet, she did say but for the life of me i cannot remember...I asked why i needed full blood count and she said my haemoglobin levels and red blood cells were low and something else was low, which again i forgot lol.. I am sure this is related to anemia and was just wondering if this was something that is common with arthritis??
Am at doctors tomorrow to find out what the note said and to get a full understanding of whats going on, as i am a wee bit confused lol...

Not sure if it's common with arthritis but from what I know about the medications we take is that one of the possible side effects is anemia. It's one of the things they look for in the regular blood tests.

    Hi tracy

I also suffer from anemia from time to time and have to take the lovely ferrous sulphate tabs.
My gp once told me that my red blood cells were not ...... what was the word he used......Good quality. He also said I could eat an irom gate and not absorb the stuff.
That was his explaination, kept it simple
I tend to take them for a good few months then stop. (i am not on them at the moment)

    Hope you get sorted soon.
    Love Juliepf x

    ps...I have RA.

I have suffered with anemia on and off all my life..
Then ferrous sulphate tabs are awful lol.. lovely black stools..
Suppose it's hard to diagnose symptoms as tiredness and lack of energy when that is what we feel with arthritis..Wasn't sure if it was all related..
Think i have just got myself confused as there is something going on with my bloods and tablets, but no1 seems to know what lol..
I hope it all comes clear tomorrow lol..
Was worried something may be wrong with my liver as i know hydroxy and some of other tablets i take can affect your liver..
Would help if my doctors surgery knew what they were doing lol..
    Oh the joys... :P

Anaemia can result from the meds and the arthritis, I have had a couple of bouts of it and spent time on iron tablets, usually between 3 - 6 months. The better levels have been restored but I don't feel any difference in myself whether it's low or correct. I have plenty of iron-rich foods which does help I suppose. I hope you can get this sorted. Hi
I suffer with anaemia as well from time to time and those tabs are dreadful.
Prune juice stays in the fridge :lol:
I've stopped taking them this time {of my own bat} because they seemed to be upsetting my stomach.
I've changed surgeries so when I got ti the new ones for the first time hopefully I'll get an MOT from them and start over again

    Love

I take folic acid weekly (as I am on injected meth) and I guess that's the reason why my levels are basically OK (tho, as I said before, I do top-up the iron dietary-wise - oooh, just had a lovely thought: Guiness! - that's supposed to help!) I hope it helps you. (The FA, not the Guiness!) DD

Leisa that awful they left you so long. Mine come back I was amenic at first but had to have another test to see why. . Most amenic is caused by iron but there can be other causes to. So doc probably just thoroughly checking. . Let us know how you get on. X

    Hi Tracy,

I have been anaemic for years but never treated for it. I know this from when I was first pregnant 27 years ago and the 3 children after that I was still anaemic. It wasn't until my rheumatologist spotted it about 7 years ago that I received iron tablets. I can't say I have noticed any difference since taking them.

    Hi Tracy,

I also have anemia. My rhumatology nurse says it's the RA but don't worry about. Sometimes it's worse than other times.
I'm not good with iron so I just live with it.
