Morning everyone,

I'm taking hydrocholoroquine, tramadol, meloxicam plus thyroxine and ferrous sulphate for underactive thyroid and slight anaemia. Since starting the hydr last week i've started to feel sick on & off all day but worse when I wake up (NO i'm NOT pregnant lol!!) also I have a loss of apetite. I thought it was the MTX that makes you feel sick not the hydro? Is this normal or should i report it to Dr???

Any advice greatly appreciated
Ria x

    Hi Ria

I am on hydroxy along with other meds and it doesn't make me feel sick.
I take mine with my breakfast.

Perhaps you may just need to get used to it and it will settle.

You could mention it to your gp if you are not happy.

I hope things settle down soon.

    Hi..

When i first started taking hydroxy i felt very sick for the first 2 weeks, then it settled down.. I did mention it to my Gp who said that if it continued for a further week she would contact rheumy and discuss it.. I have now settled down although i still get bouts of nausea in morning and sometimes through out the day, but this is not as bad as it was.. Hopefully things will settle down for you soon.. if not contact your GP...

I do suffer with sickness from meds, I have been pescribed Cyclizine to ease the sickness. I mainly feel nauseous 1st thing in morning and now and again can feel sick alday (including being sick!) so I just have a ginger biscuit (ginger biscuits and ginger beer does help!) and have a day without food! I did have loss of appetite that was put down to the hydroxy, they weren't really doing anything got me anyway so they were stopped. I think with me it's more the pain that makes me feel sick though.

Good luck, hope you get it sorted.

Am on hydroxy and never felt sick although it did give me belly ache for a bit. I solved it by taking it in the middle of a meal.

I think it is one you have to take at a diferent time to the lanzoprazole...so l take my two hydroxys one at lunch and one at tea.

I did loose appetite breifly but am sure that was as much as anything the effects of the inflamatory arthritis itself.

tramadol makes me REALLy sicky though

I had some stuff for nausea too in the past

began with an 'm' sorry....

    love

We are taking powerful meds and as is the way with these things they may well be tackling the problem they are prescribed for but they do so with knock-on effects. We have tough conditions and tough conditions need tough meds - oh that we could just sniff a rose and be healed or wave a feather over our affected joints and all is well but, alas, that cannot be.

I know I am fortunate in that I get away with very little in terms of side effects - tinnitus and a yellow furry tongue are the most annoying, the flushes have died away since I reduced the pred to 7 (and now 6) mgs, but nausea still hits occasionally via the alendronic acid and/or the injected meth. I hope that your body adjusts to the hydroxy, sooner rather than later, and that it does help to relieve your arthritis. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Was it mebeverine Toni? I'm on three a day of those for IBS.
    135mg..

Not sure if they would be used as an anti nausea though, just a guess.

My answer is yes! I was introducing Sulfazalazine for 6 weeks and after the first couple of weeks, I started feeling sick and dizzy and it just got worse resulting in me having to take time off work for 2 weeks as I just couldn't function. I spoke to the hospital who told me to reduce the dose but I continuted to have a loss of appetite and had nausia (like you say on and off throughout the day). I have now come off of it and feel human again but have had to increase my daily steriod amount until my flare up calms down. I would definately say it's the tablets, the symptoms can pass but they may just not be right for you. This was the second time I tried Sulfa, the first being 10 years ago and it wasn't right for me then so it just proved the point that sometimes these drugs don't agree with everybody. Good luck :-)

I have days when I feel sick, and other days when I feel tip top, ( not many of tip top days), as for the appetite thing well I never have one these days, my Husband gets really angry with me when I won't eat, but I get over faced with a big dinner, so I snack more than have a big meal, as they say, little and often.
My weight never seems to go down even though I don't eat much, so I'm wondering if its the meds I'm on that causes that, so god knows what size I would be if I ate normally through the day.
Does anyone else have a problem with weight gain while on meds ?

I've been on Methotrexate since Aug 2010 (taken on a Friday each week), & felt really sick on the Sat & Sun. My rheumy nurse said to split the dose - take 1/2 in the morning & 1/2 in the evening rather than it all at once.
It definately eased the nausea - I still feel queasy on the 2 days following the dose but not half as much. Also I find if I'm busy (eg shopping, housework) I don't notice it as much - if I'm just sitting around reading, crosswords etc I feel queasier.
Doing something physically active must take my mind off it.
I also take sulfsalazine daily but that doesn't seem to bother me.

Check with your rheumy & see if you can split the dose.

    Hope you feel better soon
