any ideas as to why this is waking me up early hours, (5am) so annoying, doesnt hurt just have great trouble moving my hands, making a fist is a no no, and getting my hands to do something like teeth hair or even the loo is weird, i had the troubles with my hands when my palindromic rhuematism started 25 ish years ago, had flares up over the years and always knew i was in the early stages of RA, but this last week my hands are annoying... i guess its taking my mind of my sore hip and knees...
it does go down as the day progresses
just wondering why i keep getting it of late
love and hugs

Sorry Liesa, I cannot help. If this continues it may be worth contacting your GP - if you have RA it could well be connected to that, or it could just be fluid retention. My fingers swell when I am tired or am broaching a PA flare - I don't wear my wedding ring that often now, I am fearful of it getting stuck and then having to be cut off. DD

    thanks xx

i wont take my new wedding ring off, its fitting my fat fingers well now lol, have taken my other rings off but we renewed our wedding vows last year in florida with all the kids and grandkids around our 30th wedding anniversary, just like we were getting married for the first time, big dress and bridesmaids etc, amazing and along with it came our 2 new wedding rings and i have vowed this one stays on and goes to the grave with me, i couldnt even get my old one on my little finger anymore ... i tried and put the rings back on the other day but they were so tight so gave it half hour then soaped them back off, really weird as i been wearing them for yonks and they been fine but my fngers are already fat due to me being at least 8 stone overweight, but this last week and a half they been so swollen and stiff first thing more then normal... wondered if it was cos of the matress topper we just recently bought i think im sleeping more or less in the same position i think most of the night.... memory foam is the way to go!

    Hi Leisa

My hands swelled an awful lot when i first had symptoms, they occasionally do now.. Mine have been reduced alot with my steroid injection and diclofenac..
I reckon you should mention it to your Gp though,, see what they say..

    Hi Liesa

I to suffer from swollen hands & fingers, and cannot make a fist with them either. The pain does ease off slightly during the course of the day, but the swelling does not go down. They are worse first thing in the morning when I get up. My hubby thinks I need to be referred back to the hospital to see about a steroid injection. I had one probably a year and a half ago now, and it was so nice to be pain free for a couple of months. I am on new meds at the moment, so I will see how these go, then if no joy, it is back to the doctors I go. I just get so frustrated that things you could do every day, like take tops of jars etc, even drying the pots is difficult, I really struggle with now. I certainly don't like having sausage fingers as I call them. I have no chance of getting my wedding ring off, and the eternity ring I had is on another finger now. We to are going to renew our wedding vows in 2013, so I have said I would like another eternity ring to go on the finger it should be on. Just hope I can get one to fit. Glad your day went really well.

    Take care

    Piglet :P xx
