Today i was visited by a lovely lady from Occupational Therapy..
She came and done an assesment as to what i might need hel[p with around the house..
Sounds quite sad but i am quite excited about the prospects of being able to pull myself up in bed, some extra rails for me to hold on to so i don't trip and break my neck..A seat for my bath and a seat so i can sit at the sink and have a wash, this will def save me having to set on the side of the bath holding onto the sink with one hand so i don't slide back in the bath and washing with the other.. can be a right palava..
I am really grateful for her ideas and the help she has requested, delivery is next tuesday and she will be here wednesday morning to install necessary things.. she is also doing a referral to council for me to have shower put in and for physio to come round and help me with walking aids..So all round great morning..
This afternoon i had dentist as i have been getting clicking in my jaw and can be quite painful to eat at times..Anyway i walked up to the dentist with my crutch in tow(knee is throbbing) now wether it was because oh wasn't with me as he normally is, i felt like i had everyone looking at me..paranoid i thought.. Some women actually stopped and said "i thought you had broken something because you have a crutch, but by the looks of it you haven't broken anything have you?" she was quite snotty in the way she said it to.. i replied " no i haven't broken anything, but i am also not just using it for the fun of it either" gave me a funny look and twoddled off...
Got to Dentist eventually, realised my dentist was upstairs great lol.. anyway managed the stairs which seemed to take forever to climb...After explaining everything to dentist he confirmed my jaw was clicking and could be that it is out of sync, took xrays and reccommended 2 weeks of soft diet and hot compress on jaw for ten minutes each night.. he wants to see if all the problems at the moment are making me clench my teet at night or if it is arthritis related..Am due to see him next week for polish and clean and to see what xrays showed...
Am now putting feet up with a nice cup of tea.. nice strong cuppa too..
So yes that was my day so just thought i would share my day as was feeling bit down yesterday, miss perky is on her way back again..

Hi Tracy
You are not sad at all, what difference the rails and the other stuff will make to you.
I know what you mean about the bed, I have to grab my metal headboard or ask hubby to help, so I will be interested to see how you get on with it.
I do hope the dentist can help with your jaw, .
Now make that cup of tea and have a good rest.Love

Hi tracy
I am glad that you have had a better day today, (except perhaps the comment from the snotty woman of whom you should have tripped up then offered her your crutch ) ....oooooh thats not me talking is it? where did that come from?
Was a success with the ot and when your equipment arrives I am sure it will make your life easier.
A thought for you.....could your dentist see you downstairs.....Mine does now, and has for a few years. She has to use someone elses room and I do feel a bit guilty that she doesn't know where things are in there, but hey, if they won't install a stairlift.
Enjoy your cuppa and the relaxation for a few mins
Take care

I'm glad the OT thing went well, Traluvie.
Try to ignore pollicks. There's a lot of them about. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

lol@sticky..
The word pollicks sounds better than pillocks lol.. love it.. that is my new word of the day..

I reckon we are lucky to live in an age where these things are available. I was given a bath board but never use it - I can't sit that low and can't stand up after, so that has gone back. I love my raised toilet seat for the cruddy times, I would not be without that, and I bought some suction grab handles so they can be removed when things pick up (which they do from time to time). I would love a stairlift but our stairs are not the right sort for that, so we will have to move instead BUT these things do make life a deal easier, they save valuable and restricted energy (ours). I hope all the new kit proves to be a boon, traluvie. DD
PS If anyone else has a 'go' about your stick etc draw attention to them by screaming loudly 'This person has just been very VERY RUDE to ME.' whilst pointing at them. Job done.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi Tracey,
Just wanted to say I'm so glad OT have been able to help you and well done for standing up for yourself re your stick I've found that since i sprayed mine purple and then coated it in glitter most people greet me with a smile and give me a wide berth
Thinking of you xxx'grá agus solas'

Hello Tracy
Eventful day indeed!!!!!
I am so glad the OT visit went well and that they are going to be able to help. Anything which makes life easier has got to be a good thing eh? So not sad at all.
As for the rude woman - well I reckon that both Juliepf and DD have made good suggestions there!
Hope the dentist can find out what's causing the jaw probs and that you manage your "soft" diet Tracy.
Glad you are feeling more perky today.
Thinking of you.
Lots love Tilly xxx0 -
Hi Tracey,
Am so glad that you are getting these things from OT, it will help you a lot.
Regarding that snobby person you saw at the dentist, well she should be ashamed of herself.

Hi Tracy
Glad things are going wel for you.....when I read the bit about the lady and the crutch.....I was going to tell you to ask DD for advice on snotty replies to these people...... I think she has plenty of experience in that
I see she has already replied.
OT are great people......I have an extra rail on my stairs which is a big help to me.,,,,,I did try a bath board but was perched like a pea on a drum and freezing cold. then tried a batch seat.....it displaced the water and my bath wasnt really big enough for it.....I'm collecting a stool for the shower on Fri. I've got to go to the hospital anyway so thought i might as well get it as wait for it to be delivered. I had loads of things aftr I had my THR and they were great....still got the perch stool.
Glad things went so well for you
Love

Do you know traluvie, but when I got snotty people asking me why I am using a crutch, I get all imaginative!! I know it is naughty and I do have a wicked streak. But . . . . one has to get your fun somehow!!!
I can't possibly tell you some of the whoppers I have told, much to hubbys chagrin!! It does make the day pass quicker though!
Glad OT was a help and I hope the dentist can help you with your jaw.0 -
Lol you do make laugh..in a good way of course
I have a picture of all of you with your sticks waving them around at the very rude and offensive people..
DD i love your idea.. that will certainly make them squirm..
Have told the kids about the new aids that are coming and my son is so excited.. he said " mom when your bath thing comes can i have a go and try it out for you" bless..xxTracyxx0 -
Hi Tracy
i had the OT come just after a crash we had in the car with a bus... posted about this elsewhere...
anyway they brought me a 'mangar bath cushion' it was wonderful to be able to get into the bath and rest my pained back... also got the bath/shower board, she also had another hand rail put on my stairs which has been invaluable for me, also they sent someone round to give me new taps so i have levers in the bathroom which is amazingly fantastic, it was so painful trying to turn the bath taps or the sink taps on or off... now i can lie in the bath and turn them on and off lol... i said i didnt need them in the kitchen as theyre slanted so its easier to grip them, the OT is now trying to get me a downstairs loo/wet room and a sleep room but waiting for an architect to come and find the best place in my home to put them... its a long process of two years to get this far but will be worth it, the OT has told me as i have RA in both hips she told me shes looking for wheel chair access, i didnt realise she meant for me!
im in a typical council house 3 bedrooms, they sent a housing officers to see me, to see if i would like to move, i said i have a 27 year old and 15 year old here so would still need 3 beds... we have lived here for 25 years and all i wanted was a downstairs loo... i have urge incontinence so trying to get to the loo quick is awful... but im waiting patiently to see if we can have a little more room....
Occupational Therapists are amazing people!love and hugs0 -
Hi Tracey,
Well that has been a full day for you. Not long to wait until you have all your OT stuff delivered. It should help you so much.
I hope your dentist can help you and the soft food diet includes chocolate (soft centres of course).
