Hi Everyone.

My knee/leg has recently flared up and the inflamation is quite bad and I am not coping very well with it.

Is this anything that I can take other than Ibuprofen? Which doesn't seem to be working?

yes there are lots of things you need to go back to docs and show them they will give you something stronger. try ice wrapped in a towel for 20 min then wheat bags the ice to take swelling out heat to stop muscle spasms good luck val

Ibroprufon is the only over the counter anti inflammatory i know but I'm sure others wil come up with something......otherwise I think it should be the GP

I think you said in another post that it wasn't hurting, so that is a good thing. You could try massage, push the inflammation up your leg rather than down, knead and manipulate it for five minutes or so every hour. Ice is a good idea (but my knees would immediately refill the moment I stood up to put the peas back in the freezer so I have to admit I gave up with that) but if the joint is hot do not use heat. Don't sit without your affected leg being elevated, if you do go and see your GP I doubt he/she will do anything about it (they tend not to aspirate joints in surgery and, quite honestly, I wouldn't want a rank amateur tackling mine, (rheumatology nurses are by far the better people for that) but your doctor may be able to prescribe a better anti-inflammatory. My left knee ended up being 27 inches round before anyone did anything about it. Let's hope the steroid injection (which is on the horizon for you) helps, yes? I wish you well. DD
