Saw my surgeon after having x rays of both feet. Expecting him to pre-assess me for surgery on left one. So, he starts to tell me that he will have to fuse one joint in left foot with a bone graft. Then asks me what I want to do about the right one. I told him that I thought he'd finished with that! No he says, I still need to fuse your big toe and sort out the little one otherwise you'll never get a shoe on it! What a bolt from the blue that was. So, it looks like I'm in for a much longer haul than I thought!! Bit fed up now.

    Oh Sue
Thats why I hate appointments, sometimes you dont know what they are going to hit you with.
I really do wish you well with it all, let us know when you will be going in, and we will all be there for you.
    Love

Oh dear, cloud9, I am sorry. They do sometimes fling stufff at you, don't they? Yes, it does sound indeed as tho it could be along haul but in the long-term does this mean you will be spared greater pain and discomfort? It's a good idea to take some time out to sulk and have a quick dip in the Pool of Self-Pity, it does help. I am sure you will recover your spirits soon - if not, let us know and we will give you the required spur! I wish you well. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Oh Cloud9,,

I am sorry to here your a bit fed up.. you have every right to be,, op after op can be very tiring, draining and an awful long road at times..Hopefully though this will put you on the right road to feeling better..
In the meantime, DD's idea of taking a step back and relaxing for a bit sounds like a great idea.. time to refocus,, in the meantime we will be behind you every step of the way..
    Thinking of you...

Awwww you're all so sweet.......thankyou. I know I'll be ok. Just it was so different to what I was expecting. I've had all my pre-assessment done so that's a good thing

Sorry to hear about your news
    I think some of these consultants/surgeons/doctors have a competition to see who can give the worst news, they don't think of the person on the recieving end of that news do they?. but although it maybe a longer haul i'm sure it will be better for you in the long term. As DD says take a step back to give yourself time to get your head around it all. i'm sure {no I know there are many on here who are here for you.} in the meantime sending oodles of {{{hugs}}}
    Stay positive always👍xx

Aw good luck and hope all goes well for you, at least it is summer so you can wear sandals after surgery, then when the swelling has gone down and all healed you will be able to get your shoes on without discomfort, all ready for the winter.

Thanks for all your kind words. I guess I'm resigned to it now. I guess I ought to get a letter off to D.L.A. to let them know my needs are due to change?

I'm sorry the consultant has told you that you need more work done and you've resigned yourself to it. We will be ready to do pocket duties for you when you know the date for the fusing. At least you know what needs to be done.

Also get in touch with Occupational therapists they will come out and assess your needs and get you kitted out with anything you may need.
They have been brilliant with me, I now have a bath chair, new steps to my front door, as my old one was too steep, hand rails, new taps etc.
Its worth giving them a call.

Yes, they're already on board. They were excellent last time. Because I knew that I'd be going through surgery on both feet, I've kept a lot of stuff. I may just need a K9 again. (Knee scooter) Because my other ankle/foot is so weak.

Thats good, just try to stay positive, and think at least after surgery you will be on the road to recovery, maybe run a marathon ( only joking) I hope everything goes well for you, and will be thinking of you.
