Hello, Taking Morphine, diclo, tramadol etc etc and my skin is going crazy. I look like I am manky as I am forever scratching (I read its one of the side effects). I have Hydrocortisone cream to rub on, but wondered if anyone had any tips about how to cope with this? Many thanks

Sorry cant help you with the rest of the meds but when I had cortisone cream one time I was told to use it very sparingly because it thinned your skin.

Hello,
I was told to stop taking Tramadol cos I developed an itch after only a couple of doses. It started as a usual itch but then developed into a funny pinching sensation all over my body. Hileena is right about the cream, you have to use it sparingly. Have you tried an antihistamine? I would go to drs and ask for something to help with the itching. Hope you get some relief,

Tramadol is a very funny med to take, and doesn't suit all, I used to take it and it sent me do-llay tapped, one minute I was up the next I was down, and I also had the itching, so came off it at my gp's request, it is also bad for constipation, I ended up in Hosp with it once as it got really bad.
Antihistimine are good for the itching like Magenta says.
Good luck, and would def go and get a review from your gp.0 -
I think I am right in saying that tramadol is morphine based, so that could be a double dose of whart is irking your skin. I scratched for about eleven years as a child, thanks to chronic eczema, my mum tied cotton mittens onto my hands: I bit thro them, scratching was imperative. They then invented Betnovate (hydrocortisone) which was/is lovely stuff, 'Don't use it on your eye lids.' the docs said. Yeah, right. Try not doing that when your eyes itch and the 'proper' stuff does nothing.
I suspect you need a change of pain meds, have you tried Butrans patches or summat similar? I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -

I take tramadol for the pain and have psoriasis. Had all the creams betnovate is a good steroid cream but try an emoillant cream such as diprobase, or the thicker epiderm. They keep the skin moisterised and will relieve your itching, complimenting any steroid cream that you apply..
hope this helps0 -
Hi, tramadol made my skin itch and feel like it was crawling. This along with other symptoms made the side effects outweigh the benefits. I think you need to pop along to your doc about this. Maybe you will need to eliminate one med at a time to see which one is the main culprit. The last think you need is the itching along with arther.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Wow! I'm glad someone else suffers with itching from morphine! I constently scratch and my skin feels hot! I look like I have fleas! So morphine itcher your not alone!!0

I was all over the place when I was on tramadol, and yeah it affected my sleeping, I used to be up all night with it.
I was glad when I seeked alternative pain relief.
I'm on morphine patches, now they can be a bit funny, esp when they are about to be changed, i have weird dreams, twitching, suppose its like coming down, off drugs, going cold turkey, not nice at all, and cert one you have to be weaned off.0 -
It's the M.S.T for me and the oromorph. I can scratch my arms and legs like made and not realise I'm doing it and only stop when I realise I'm doing it and it's to late by then I've broke the skin and I'm bleeding! My legs can look like bubba (my cat) has used my legs for a scratching post! & my arms can look like I'm self harming myself! My OH stops me by shouting ' stop it!' when we're watching telly and I'm off not relaising I'm doing it!
It feels like something is under your skin doesn't it?...........0 -
I’m not sure it’ll work with this kind of itching, but have you tried having an oat bath? Does absolute wonders for my eczema. Fill a sock with oats (just normal porridge ones do nicely), and tie it around the bath tap, so the water has to run through it to fill the bath. I have no idea why or how this works, but it has helped relieve chronic itching for many a year on my part!
I also find cutting down/out sugar for a few days helps if I’m having a serious itch-attack, again, don’t know how/why it works, but seems to stop me getting itchy (or rather, too much sugar makes me itchy!).
Ooh I’m all itchy just thinking about it now...
PS aqueous cream is great, you can get a great bit vat of the stuff for not much money. Avoid any creams with lanolin in (Even E45!) as that can aggravate itchiness.0 -
once had an itchy forehead and the dermatolgist (i was there for something else and mentioned it) sent me for an iron test...it was low and thats why itchy, got iron tablets and it went, had never heard that before.
is your iron ok?0
