Hi All
My name is Jan I have been ill for 3 years now pain in feet, arms legs and hands. Saw neuro who thought MS then saw MS specialist, I have seen a rheumy who gave me steroid injection in toe for mortons syndrome which helped. My problem is MS guy said I dont think you have MS you have degenerative arthritis in neck and spineno referral nothing just goodbye. I have had many blood tests surely this would have shown up and rheumy would have known I do not know what to do or who to believe I just know the pain I am in everyday. Anyone who can give any advice would be much appreciated. I attend Southern General glasgow, and rheumy is in Paisley RAH.

Hi Jan, it's nice to meet you. I think I am right in saying that degenerative arthritis is a term used for osteo arthritris and that does not show in blood tests. It is often called the 'wear and tear' arthritis, and it manifests in cartilage wearing away, bones rubbing against each other and for some extra bone growths (spurs) can also occur. Xrays show its presence and there is no treatment as such, apart from pain dullers and possibly anti-inflammatories. GPs manage the care of OAers, rheumatologists deal with the auto-immune versions of this dross such as rheumatoid or psoriatic (they can register in blood tests). I have psoriatic and osteo, ain't I lucky?
