Evening all!

I have a horrible, snotty cold. I don't feel particularly ill, just a bit headachey and full of cold. My ankle operation is booked for Thursday and my surgeon goes on holiday a week after. So, I have to get better and not develop an infection, otherwise the operation won't be till mid August which doesn't give me enough recovery time before university. Any tips on making a cold go away very quickly please?

Also, does anyone take fish oil supplements? I was told they're really good for inflammation. I've tried them before but some of them taste yuck. I'm assuming you can get capsules...?

    Hi Sophie
In the past I've used a nasal spray the name escapes me that is meant to help stop a cold getting hold. I did find it helped it stings yhough! I'm sure most chemists will stock it-the sooner the better though! Good luck with everything, let us know how you get on
    Best wishes Josie

    Aww Sophie
Right lets try and sought you out, load up with vitamin C, I have a lovely friend that is a surgeon...only wish he did hips then he could do mine....but he told me before an op take large doses of vit C apparently some hospitals give it before ops to aid recovery.
Has for fish oil I have tried them, but I suppose you have to give them at least a few months, just google natural antiinflamitorys....sorry spell check not working
I do hope you feel better before your op, and I wish you well with it.
    Love

    Oh no :???:

This cannot be - we cannot have another forum member sickied off her operation!!

Isn't it echinacea? Check with the pharmacists - but l am sure it's quite good - l used to take it all the time when l was a single working parent with two kids so l could keep going.

Not since all this medication though so l would check with the chemist for sure.

    Love and luck

    Hi sophie

poor you and I hope the cold goes in time for your opp.
When ever I get a cold I drink plenty of orange juice
I also eat lots of raw onion (in sandwich or salad)
And add garlic to my hot dinners......Now if it works or not i am not sure but it makes me feel like i am killing the bugs

I used to take fish oil tabs but dont think they did much for me.
Besides ... cause it wasnt a prescribed med I kept forgetting (perhaps thats why they never worked)

    take care

    Hi Sophie,

My operation scheduled for the beginning of June was cancelled because I had a cold (upper respiratory infection).

I went to see my GP two days before the op because my cold was just getting worse. I was told by him:
      1. They only cancel ops these days if they really have to. 2. As long as your chest is clear you should be okay. 3 If you have a temperature they
    won't do the op.

    4. If you're on antibiotics they won't do the op.

I was sent home not because I was streaming with cold and coughing up gak but because I had a temperature.

To help to ease your mind why don't you go and see your GP asap?

    Sincerely hope you're not cancelled.

    Please keep us posted.
    Love, Legs x

Thank you for the support you lovely people and thank you for the reassurance Linda. I'm still feeling sniffly and my joints have flared up again but not much I can do about that one! Over the next few days, I shall endeavour to enjoy the sun and getting out and about as much as I can. ;) xx
