I tried this gel years ago ; it was an absolutely pointless item and made no improvement whatsoever . Jillyb

Does nothing for me either - i've only had one topical gel that helped at all and that was Feldene gel - prescribed by my consultant but that only helped with the bursa on my knee rather than any arthritic pain/ inflammation
Go back and speak to your GP and get them to sort something out more suitable
    Hope you feel better soon

    Hi Craig
No it didnt work for me either, you go back to your GP and get across to him how bad the pain is, hopefully he will prescribed something for you.
Please let us know how you get on.
    Love

    Hi Craig,
No Ibroprufen gel never worked for me.....You say if you come off it can you take something stronger...yes....The thing is if you are on anti inflamms and use the gel as well thats taken as overdosing.
Deep heat is good although it stinks
    Sometimes cold is better......deep freeze? {doesnt smell as much}
At the moment i'm trying biofreeze,,,,,,,its not anti inflamm but does seem to be helping a bit.
Good luck with your doc......you can get a lot of these on prescription so its worth a try.

    Love

    Hi Craig

I have tried this and movelat gel too and volterol gel. Not brilliant if the pain is deap inside l find...for this the tablets are better. Pretty good for muscle type things though....l reckon l used loads of movelat decorating my daughter's bedroom!!

Is there a reason why you cant take them orally? do they uspet your stomach? or have respiritory issues? Check with your pharmacist because they can be bought over the counter.

    Love

Hi, have had some success with the max strength gels, but works better on some joints than others. Is more of a suppliment to other meds and treatments than a replacement for them.

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

The trouble is Craig, the ankle is a big joint and I don't think creams/gels penetrate deep enough.

I would think you're okay to take stronger meds now as long as there's a gap between when you last rubbed the gel on. You could always ring a pharmacist just to make sure.

Have you tried an ice pack on your ankle, damp cloth wrapped round and a bag of frozen peas on top for 20 mins?

The other thing I like to use is a TENS machine, don't know if could borrow one to try from your doctors surgery.

    Hope this helps.

Hi, it is rubbish, deep heat is about the best except for the smell,i used it last year my grandson said i smelled like an old lady (so that went in the bin)I like to use a wheaty bag that you can warm in the microwave, dont know that it does a lot of good but it feels very comforting, not tried the frozen peas but will keep it in mind.Mig

No don't worry it definately isn't you both me & my OH have tried it and he is healthy and was told to use it when he injured his leg at work and had some swelling due to some wood falling from the rack. It was nasty but it was totally useless for him had to try another cream which helped. But Ibupurofen gel is totally rubbish!!

i have just started trying... Aloe Vera heat lotion, a friend of mine on facebook is an agent for it, i used to think it was crazy but she sent me a few samples and now had to buy my own, in fact ive just massaged some into my sore wrist, but it does work...sometimes i have to rub in a second time and its so soothing... but as with most things tried for our joints what may work for one wont work for another...
i bought somethng whlst on holiday in florida some years back and it felt so hot... i got into a cold bath to try help it as the heat intensified, it started to scare me so i called the hospital, apparently some of these 'deep' heat treatments are made worse by adding cold water... cant remember what the hospital said but i know the tube went into the bin!!
    love and hugs
