Consultant Appointment Tomorrow

Hi Everyone.
Well I have my consultant appointment tomorrow, and after a 2 month flare up I am very keen to speak to him.
Has anyone heard of Water tablets that you can take to help reduce your inflamation? The inflamation is my only real problem at the moment. From a pain point of view the methatrexate seems to be doing its job.
I don't think I'll get steriod injections if I am pain free, so don't know what else he can give me for the inflamation, as the ibufrophen isn't working.
I saw a doctor at my surgery at few weeks ago (not my own doctor) and he suggested taking paracetamol with ibufrophen, which didn't do anything other than making me spaced out!
I will give you an update once I've been to the hospital! Will wait with interests to see what he says.

Hey......
I think perhaps you need something a little stronger for the inflammation.
Diclofenac or Naproxen?

Hi
I just want to second what Keith has said, make sure you ask about , after a year my gp has put me back on diclofenac...and what a difference I have found with it, but everyone is different.
I do hope you get some help.Love

Hi DebraKelly,
Please don't take my word for this but I thought Water Tabs were for reducing fluid caused by the kidneys not working very well and the sort of inflammation we arthritics get is caused by joints trying to protect themselves.
I'm sure if you just tell your rheumatologist what you've told us (s)he'll be able to sort something out for you. All the best.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I'm with sticky on this, I reckon water tablets are for a different thing altogether. If the meth is doing all it is supposed then perhaps the inflammation should not be such an issue: what are your markers, do you know? I suspect he will suggest hydroxy, or nap, or diclo - am I right in thinking however that you have had trouble with those in the past? Or am I muddling you with someone else? If I am, I apologise. You may even have a steroid shot to help with the inflammation if it is too high. Let us know you you get on, please. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hello Debrakelly.
I'm with the others on the water tablet thing and I too feel that, although it's great that your pain is much improved by the meth, if the inflammation is not under control it may not be doing enough for you.
Really good luck with your appt tomorrow - and please do post to let us know how it goes.
Will be thinking of you.

Hi DebraKelly..
I found the steroid helped with my inflammatory arthritis and i also take diclofenac.. my swelling has gone down tremendously..
Hopefully your rheumy will be able to work with you to finding a good alternative to help.. Glad to hear you are not in so much pain.. thats great news.. Wish you well and let us know how you get on..xxTracyxx0 -

I'm pretty sure you can't take any anti-inflammatories with methotrexate. Check to be sure.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Yes, you can take diclofenac with methotrexate, I am on both prescribed by my Rheumatologist. I hope your appointment went well.0
