I do not know what you have tried but a cortisone shot into the carpal tunnel is probably the best bet, hand stretching exercises by a physio, a hand splint to support the wrist by an OT, identify what you find aggravates and hopefully find a way around those postures and painkillers/anti inflams.

I hope you find a way to manage, without surgery.

Thanks for your replies actually it's my husband who has this condition he is a big gardener and it's been bothering him for quite a few weeks he has a support on it at the moment. He is yet to see the Doctor about it he has quite a few health problems. The cortizone injection sound good he doesn't want an operation on the wrist (men are such babies) he will try anything apart from that :P

My hubby had the carpal tunnel op a few years ago now. It has come back again now. He has trouble with his neck and spine and I am sure it is connected, but the neuro wasnt interested. The op itself wasnt too bad, they just cant drive for a couple of weeks, which my hubby wasnt keen on.

    Hope the steroid shots help.
