Sciatica

Anyone got any tips for getting rid of chronic sciatica. Saw GP who said physio wouldn't work and it should go away by itself if I stop irritating the nerve. I'm irritating it by picking Harry up. Only a year or two to go before it settles then, brill.
Anyone got any suggestions to help? Pain goes all the way to my foot, have pins and needles and numb patches and it keeps me awake even with a shed load of pills. Gp told me to come back if it gets worse or doesn't get better. Joy.

Ooh you poor girl! I suffer with sciatic too, mine was caused 17 years ago giving birth to my son, I was given a 'dodgy' epidural, and suffered ever since, it's always worse around my 'time of the month'.
I'm on tramadol and co codamol for my PA and they do help although you're absolutely right, it doesn't stop the pain completely, I was given a cream called Transvasin it's a bit like deep heat but a bit stronger, I also found out recently (over the past 2 months) that the prednisolone I was on helped too, a hot bath helps and hot water bottle on the small of my back. When it's at it's worst it's like tin foil on a tooth filling :???: you have my complete sympathy. I'm a Mum of 3 teenage lads now, and Childminded for 15yrs so I know about the lifting a small child predicament, how old is your little lad? too old for a sling? Other than that I religiously went through my routine and made sure my equipnent was at shoulder level so no stretching.
I hope you feel better soon, thinking of you hugs ((())) xxx'grá agus solas'

Hi Joy
I am truly sorry that you are suffering with sciatica - it is very debilitating, isn't it?
I suffered with sciatica for nearly one year and it was horrid. I was ok when in bed or sitting but moving was a completely different matter.
I was referred to a pain clinic. I had a Dorsal Root Ganglion block x 2 at L4 and L5 on 3 December 2009 and touch wood since then I have been sciatica free. The Doctor had trouble with injecting in L5 as there was limited space but he pumped in a steroid injection instead and told me that I had a 50% chance of it working..... and it did immediately. I was asleep during this procedure so knew nothing about it but I could count 15 injection marks in my lower back so he had really tried his best. I am truly indebted to this wonderful man.
I would go back to your gp if your symptoms continue.

Thinking of you.
