Hi Everyone.
I may be getting a steriod injection tonight, possibly in my bum!
How much pain is involved in this? Its just like getting blood taken?
I have a huge fear of needles so advise you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Debrakelly!
If it's a "depo" injection, rather than one into a specific joint, I reckon it will be in your bum  - but good thing is you will be facing away so you won't see the needle I don't remember it being painful particularly, just uncomfortable cos it is going into a muscle but I wouldn't have thought it would be as difficult for you as a blood test if you are needle-phobic. If you can, try not to tense up cos I don't think that helps.
Really good luck with it - and hope it helps you.
Lots love and calming vibes,

Hi ..
I have the steroid injection in my bum..
I bend over and my gp just pulls me bottoms down a bit and injects into my muscle..Feel a little prick like you do when having bloods but nothing too bad..I do find afterwards that i get a bit of stinging for a day or so after where the needle went in, other than that it pretty straight forward..
Hope it works for you like it has for me..xxTracyxx0 -
I hardly notice them. Just try to relax your bum muscles to make it easier. If it works as well as they do for me you'll soon forget about the jab. Good luck.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Depos have always been very straightforward with me: a little sting, and I mean little and no after effects. Simples. I hope it works for you. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I had a steroid injection into my bum for the first time in May. I was about to go on holiday and was in a mess to be honest.
The injection was nothing at all. No pain while it was being done and none afterwards.
It was absolute magic for me and i wouldn`t hesitate to have another. It lasted about four weeks and was the only relief i have had from Psoriatic Arthritis in the two years since I was diagnosed.
Go for it! I hope it works as well for you.0 -
Morning Debra.
Hope the injection went ok - and that you didn't feel it! Hope too that you start to feel the benefit soon.

Hello,
I didn't get the injection in the end. So I was very happy.
But it looks like I will have to get Meth injections later on the year.0 -
This is not a bad thing: a smaller dose but a stronger one, so let's hope that makes all the difference and saves you having to take anything else. I take it your hospital will do the injections for you? I flogged up to my rheumatology unit every Wednesday for over two years to have mine done in my arm, which was a nuisance, but now I do my own and it's a breeze - it means I only have to go once a month to get fresh supplies. I wish you well with it and I hope it works for you. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I`ve had steroid injections in my knees, wrists, shoulders and even in my eye socket twice(for severe iritis which drops wouldn`t clear).
Plus all the blood tests etc.
It doesn`t hurt much and believe me,you`ll get used to them after a while!0 -
I've had three up to now, all in my bum (just the top of the muscle) they just sting a bit as they go in, it's done quite quickly and in my experience they are amaaaaazing!! I'm not a huge fan of needles but it's not as bad as having bloods taken and the relief i get far outweighs the discomfort of the needle. I'd have one every week if they'd let me! Hope it works for u!0
