I just don't know what is wrong with me these days, I just can't seem to get motivated and when I do I haven't got the energy to carry it through. My arthritis is playing me up something wrotten my knee hip and ankles have been really bad just lately. Get over myself I keep saying you are luckier than most but sometimes it doesn't feel like it. Any tips would be appreciated.

I know this feeling so well. I now reason with myself that it is not my lack of will or determination, it is the beast (now beasts) that lurk within, that it will pass and when I do feel better then I will do the things that I cannot manage at the moment. I find telling myself that there are others who are worse off totally futile: if I am at the end of my personal tether then that is where I am. Simples.
Be gentle with yourself - the more you rail against it the worse it will become, I am sure arthritis feeds on negative emotions and stress - deny it its food. It will pass, wendgro, all things do, but as to when . . . . . I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
as dd says be kind to your self while your body is fighting with arther it like having the flu you would not expect yourself to do these things while you have the flu would you so stop expecting to do it now rest till you are feeling more your old self valval0

I know the feeling!! As others have said it will pass. Try to do something you enjoy, even whilst resting. Also I try to 'achieve' something each day iit gives me purpose and satisfaction, no matter how little.
Take care, hope it improves soon0 -
how are you doing hope you have got some rest and when you feeling bit better do not over do it valval0

Hi Wendy
How are you today? Hope you can rest.....thats all you can do while you are going through a bad period......Like DD says...it will pass but dont let that stop you having a moan to us ...When it does pass then very slowly you can do those things that you want to do now....VERY SLOWLY
Someone did say...is there nothing you can do that doesnt take up a lot of energy.....are you at all creative...I'm not but is there anything along those lines that you could do while you are waiting for this to pass.
Look after yourself anyway.
Love

Wendgro, you are trying to get over it which is a good start. But this thing, when it’s really having a field day…or week….or month messes with your head as well as your body. I can only offer my own techniques which might not be suitable but….
1. Keep your body active. (Sounds crazy when things are really tough but just small, gentle stuff with frequent rests helps.)
2. Keep your mind active. Listen to whatever music does it for you – not so cheerful you just can’t relate to it but not so miserable you just want to collapse in floods of tears.
3. Mindless computer games used to help me delay painkillers when I was last post op.
4. If all else fails phone a friend – a good one – one who’ll accept your woes, metaphorically mop up your tears and probably have a laugh with you before you hang up. (Don’t overuse this last option.)
Hope today's a bit better for you. If not, stick around here.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

good list i wash dishes (do break a lot)
keep pottering and moving about
play games (especially in the night)
read sat in garden if weather ok
shower or bath(depends how stiff i am)
but listen to body rest if need be move when that needed you will become an expert on your own body and what it needs i hope you are feeling much better valval0 -

Thanks for all your advice I WILL TRY some of the things today has been a better day( had a rubbish night though) A friend came to visit haven't seen her for 12months or more although we do speak each week She has had her ups and downs this past year( not arthritis) having said that she makes me laugh and is a real tonic with her non stop chatter. We solved all the worlds problems made everyone well again and had a good moan. I told her not to leave it so long again for visiting. It's not an option to visit her at her home.So just for today I feel better in myself.Oh by the by I do knit when hands permit and at the moment I am knitting a wedding cake for my Daughter it's a keepsake as they are getting married in Las Vegas in December.0

Hi Wendgro
You are clever...the best my knitting ever is is squares for a blanket LOL
You do sound better today.
I've got a friend that sounds very much like your friend.....she has aches and pains...not necessarily arthur......but has had spinal ops etc....and we put the world to rights over tea or coffee and have a good laugh at the same time as having a moan
