I have had RA for 8years & have been lucky in that it has been under control using methatrexate,I stopped smoking in January of this year,& since then have had 2 really bad flares, the first one resulting in a bent finger! Has anyone else noticed a worsening of symptoms after giving up "the ****"?

I really hope your flare up eases , but , please don't be tempted to start smoking again ; and yes I am that judgemental figure of an EXsmoker ! I gave up about 25 years ago , very well done for stopping . Jillyb

Hi,Lynn & Jillyb, thankyou for replying to my post, the food sensitivty sounds like a possibility,& I have no intention of starting to smoke again!!!Though it would be interesting to find out if my theory is right, can't imagine going through the withdrawal again so won't even go there! Gillian

Exactly why I stopped, Gillian. Gave up when I fist got pregnant. gave up again in order to get pregnant. Decided I'd never manage it a 3rd time.

    Hi

Isn't tobacco part of the nightshade family (potatoes, aubergines, etc)? Which are often common culprits when it comes to food sensitivities.

Random fact of the day: If you were to eat a whole bag of potatoes in one sitting, you could die from nicotine poisoning. True fact!

Smoking is definitely linked to worsening RA symptoms, so don't give up the good fight, stay off them! :)

Well done on giving up smoking. I decided to give up two weeks ago when I got the date for my surgery as its the best reason to stop.

Things have not went well, I have smoked more in the last two weeks than ever before and you would think I was trying to break the world record for the most **** smoked in one day. I just cant seem to get on track with this.
Please help with any good advice, it would be greatly appreciated as my surgery is in three weeks time.

    Love to all
