What hobbies do people have?

Hi all,
I wondered if there were any Astronomy fans out there? I have a Skywatcher 250 PX Dobsonian telescope. I used to have an Orion tripod but my fingers are too misshapen and bent thanks to PA to adjust the fiddly bits  so a Dobsonian is great just point and watch
I have problems sleeping at night thanks to arthritic ribs, so having my telescope up and ready in the garden has been brilliant at taking my mind off the pain.
What are other people's hobbies? Xx

    Thats really interesting Poppy!

I used to watch the birds in the garden, but now I have my cat and she is great company and takes my mind off things. I also enjoy reading a lot.

Where we live we get a lot of different birds, some unusual ones, so it was fascinating. We also have a family of squirrels who play and are fun to watch. Now we have kitten callers for my kitten to come out and play which is funny!!

    Hi all,
It's great that there are such varied interests
Hi Delboy, I love the perseids too! And the space station is pretty cool to view. I've always been keen on astronomy and had scopes before but this new one wow  i saved for 2 years to get it, any christmas, birthday, or anniversaries the money was put away for the big scope fund  ive been watching Saturn recently and the depth of colour on the rings and moons is amazing, also I'm now able to view nebulas and am really blown away by the beauty of the crab nebula. I am quite sad I know  but I have been known to put my lads to bed then set my alarm clock for 4am to get up and watch Venus, utterly breathtaking.
I'm keen to photograph some of the 'views' and have just bought an adaptor for my SLR camera, I'll let you know how I get on and maybe post some here if they're any good?.
Nice to speak to people on here about something other than Arthritis!! take care all Xxx

Beer and men. Not necessarily in that order either, sometimes it's men and beer, especially if the men are buying the beer. DD

Poppy, I would love to see those photos.. I love just looking up at the stars. Keilder is an amazing place for star gazing, no light pollution. I can't wait to go later this year. In fact I purposely got this new motability car as it has a full glass roof.. Now we can sour in comfort with the seats leant back, heater on... Great stuff..

My hobbies... People watching & sarcasm.. Lol

    Hi Tony,
I'll have a go of photographing Saturn probably next week (if it's clear  ) I'll have to practice but if they are any good I'll definitely post them.
It's very therapeutic and awe inspiring to look up at the cosmos in all it's beauty, it doesn't matter how sad i am or how much pain I'm in, it never fails to cheer me  xxx

Same here Craig.apart from my family which is my staffie and I`m medically retired!
I also do some sea fishing in boats when the weather is calm.
A day in a boat takes me about 4 days to recover from (pain/fatigue) but if I didn`t go,i`d go mental.

    Hi Rehab and Delboy,
I bought a T ring adaptor to fit my slr onto the lens, it was quite pricey but, i wanted the Skywatcher one for my telescope, you can buy cheaper alternatives. Also Delboy is right, very simple to use a digital camera through the lens. My hubby is a photo nut  so he wants to have a go photographing Saturn first, he did mention that you keep the shutter open for long exposure(?) I'm remembering our conversation last night but this was after 2 tramadol so bit hazy  either way, I will post if I get a decent shot.
    Cheers Xx

Hi all, FINALLY a clear night! I could get my telescope out, tonight I've been looking at Saturn and stayed up late to view Jupiter... well worth the wait  I'm afraid I didn't take any photos as we had lots of cloud earlier so set the scope up for just in case...so glad I did, it's breathtaking. sounds brilliant poppy.. Wish I'd seen it myself...

I've probably already said this but I can't wait to go to keilder first in late october.. Even chose the latest mobility car with full glass roof for star gazing, I usually have to stand looking up in the cold, not fun at all.... Now we can sit in the car, heater on, total comfort..

    Cannot wait.

    Thanks Poppy

Poppy how fascinating! i would love to see some pictures... didnt realise the amount you could see through telescopes, bit ignorant of these sort of things i guess... just left to Patrick Moore... (sir)?

my hobby is my dollshouse, its not built to a real scale more of a model of someones home, i bought from ebay a few years back... hubby and i have made one but its huge think its going to have to go tho as we need the space... 2 dolls hoouses take up to much room in the dining room... will add a pic later...

oh and reading... i love reading big big time! hubby just bought me a kindle whch is so good for my hands!! books hurt the base of my thumbs, but now so much more pleasure from reading as im not getting the pain x
    love and hugs

First and foremost spending time with my family although the kids are all 'that age' they are out more and more!

I also love reading and escaping into another world where I can forget about everything, I love the feel of books but also read on the iPad which is much easier to hold. Shopping and socialising has to be up there too.

Boring and predictable I am afraid, the astronomy sounds great though poppy. Xx
