morning all,saw my gp yesterday as i was low on pain killers, didnt want to run out before my next repeat, asked for a pred (steroid)prescription as i had none left and they had been taken off my repeat, asked me not to put it in unless i really needed it as their budget was really tight and they had got to save money, now we all know things can kick off at the most inconvinent time so what am i to do,i feel i should get them so i ready if anything does happen.
At ra clinic on monday should have blood results so will see how im doing on lef, might put me back to 20mg,had to cut down when i had a suspect flare,so fingers crossed.Mig

    Hi Mig
That is awful, its so scary to think that GPS can do this, I have not had any trouble getting mine touch wood...but it does add to the stress for you.
I hope the blood test are fine at least.
    Love

Im sorry to hear you GP is going on about the cost of meds that you need. I have the same problem with my GP. Almost every prescription I get he tells me about the cost. He told me that each prescription for mtx and folic acid is about £50, the topiramate I have is very expensive and could I try without them, and the celebrex he gave me he would probably get told off for as its about £70 a presciption. It makes you feel rubbish. I wouldnt have the tablets if I didnt need them, I would much rather have a 'normal' life, with no drugs other than the odd paracetamol for a headache! x

Sorry to say I think your Dr's are talking rubbish and shouldn't be putting this guilt trip on you
Pred is not an expensive drug
I don't have an up to date BNF (drug ref book) in the house but the one i've got has it at between 26-67p for 30tablets

    Celebrex...about £18 for 60 tabs
so unless inflation has disproportionately had an effect on these drugs, I think they are just putting a guilt trip on you

Obviously you should only be taking drugs when you need them and when they actually do something for you but if they have concerns over this they should discuss it with you properly and if they think you no longer need them then they shouldn't be prescribing them not trying to guilt you over costs.

Of course they should be balancing the books but this is their concern not yours. My GP's probably gonna have a fit when they find out i'm going on anti-tnf then

I too would ask for a prescription to have in your hand reday to 'cash in' if and when you need it.

My doctors went through every medicine omy repeat because the 'partners' dont like expensive drugs too
