Starting the pill to reduce pain

Hi,
I'm new to this but see there is a lot of comment on here about women experiencing worse arthritis pain when they have periods. What I'd like to know is, has anyone gone on the pill specifically to try and reduce the pain and did it work? Which pill? Do you know any good sources of information for me to read?
I'm already on as much MTX as I think I can cope with and don't want to pump more DMARDs into myself (consultant is always trying) when the pain so clearly linked to one week a month. Looking to solve the problem another way, although I never really got on with the pill when I was younger.
Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.
This is not something I have tried/found but I firmly believe there is a hormonal component to RA (and maybe to other forms of inflammatory arthritis) based on the fact that, statistically, it affects more women than men, that it can "disappear" during pregnancy and that is, as far as I understand it, not uncommon for it to manifest itself shortly after the birth of a child.
I will be interested to see what others have to say.

Hi,
Pain, flare-ups got worse before and during menstruation. However, I have not menstruated for about a year and still having flare ups. Pain on joints still bad. Unable to take HRT as I also have Lupus and prone to clotting.
I know it probably isn't much help but wanted to confirm what other ladies have said about menstruation and flare ups.
