I am curious to find out how you got your username for this site.

I got mine because whenever I am asked how many are in my family, I say four. Myself, 2 boys and Remix the fatcat.

On another site my name is a nickname my late brother in law gave me.

To those not in the know it was an insult, but the few that know why, know it was a major compliment :P

    Hi Geri,

I love the idea that Remix is included  Good idea but I would have the longest of user names

Mine is my old cows name..... She also had a bit of the oa and I and her used to walk in a similar way.....only she would throw out the occasional kick and I didn't

She was a lovely girl but some cantankerous and well I kinda named her Skezier cus its Cornish for skater and well she was so bad when I got her she locked like she was hobbling on ice

Bless her... I do miss her... but not the kicks

Nice to bump into you and hope your doing ok? Cris xx

For my 50th birthday Mr DD gave me a little lavender-blue Micra. I saw her looking all forlorn in a second-hand car lot, the bloke didn't want me to look at her as she hadn't been prepped but I was instantly smitten and called her Daisy. I feel happier just sitting in her, I dream about Daisy. DD

My username is the name of our house - my hubby's description of our 'first one' (house).

I also use Magpie on some sites but that's more common, so I often use Pherstun. I got the nickname Magpie because I wear a lot of jewellery.

    Mine is pretty self-evident really!

In terms of nicknames though, my real name is after a famous Dynasty character (though Mum insists I wasn't named after her!) and when watching a documentary with my old housemates, there was someone on it who said 'at least I don't have a soapy name like XXX' and so then I was called Soapy for a bit by them, and their other nickname for me was Bob. Soapy morphed into Bubble, which merged into Bobble. Strange but I actually answer to Bobble more readily than my actual name (which people hardly ever use).

There were three others with my name in my class at uni (very unusual) so we split who was called what do avoid confusion. I ended up as being Rosie. Long story.

Nicknames are funny, some are really obvious (like Big Ed or something) and others seem very, very random! Does anyone prefer their nickname to their actual name?

My username is the nickname my husband gave our cat Beauty, and bubba came from the film forest Gump, the soldier bubba who got the shrimp boat. So that is 'bubba' and Beauty thinks he is a dog and jumps up at the window when the postman comes and sometimes bounds round the house like a dog so that is where his nickname came from hence:- bubbadog!

    Best one yet Julie(pf)

Mine was always going to be from cricket. I’m totally besotted. I could also truthfully have been ‘slowturner’, ‘dibblydobbly’ or (No sniggering at the back there) ‘cowcorner’.

Mine came from a friend at primary school (decades ago) - her brother had never met anyone called Tina and he loved the fact it rhymed with Ribena - so that is what I became known as. My sister and I always had hot Ribena when we had colds - I don't think I've drunk hot Ribena in the past 40 years!!

I am mad on gymnastics so my user name is Tkachev named after a male Russian gymnast called Alexander Tkachev. He has a release and catch movement named after him so you hear it all the time.

My nickname is Sam and has been for many years. But when I came on here I signed Elizabeth, which was my original middle name as I hated my Christian name and changed it by deed poll to my middle name (so as not to upset my Mum.

I chose my name because I served my apprenticeship as a Compositor back in the 60s...Yes, they actually used metal type in them days to set
books, mags, stationary etc. Compositors are a rare breed now that technology has taken over...(they say theres a big mountain somewhere in this country with Compositors piled high) they are called Typesetters now. Enjoyed reading this thread.

My hubby calls me ‘I’ and so as we work together everyone at work also calls me “I” so it sort of stuck much to my mum’s dismay.

Ironic came as my hubby is called Ron and I just found it Ironic that just as I was thinking of retiring and getting away from the stress of running our own company when Arthur got me.

Hi, what a good post. Its an interesting read.
Mine is quite simple, I love flowers especially lilies, the smell from them travels all round the house.
My family and friends know this so if they want to get me flowers it has to be lilies. ( my real name is Jackie )
Should I sign off with my real name or username ? have been using username up to now but reading this post makes me think I should use my real name now and stop hiding the real me.
