Hi all
Just to say, I found this site yesterday.... I'm 52 and was diagnosed with OA on right wrist (poss got it on left too, but right is def the worst one  ). I had a denervation op about 18 months ago and last week had an arthroscopy which has shown that I need a total wrist replacement  how can that be, I am so young (52 in age - 21 mentally).
Anyone had any experience of such an op and got any tips for the future? I don't know how long I'll be off of work, (I work part time on a switchboard which necessitates keyboard use a lot).
Any info will be muchly appreciated
BTW what is pocket duty??????

Hi there, TinaRibena, and welcome.
I've no real experience of wrist ops I'm afraid though my own managed to fuse themselves years ago. I hope there'll be someone on soon more able to help you.
As for 'too young' at 52 - 'fraid not. I got my first 2 knee replacements at 35. Brilliant!
Hope you'll enjoy being with us.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Tina,
First of all welcome to the forum. Pocket duty is when we have an appointment coming up and we virtually jump into your pocket to give support and a gentle nudge when needed. It sort of helps when you know other people are thinking of you and it can give you that bit of extra courage to ask questions.
I have no experience with joint replacements but Dorcas and Lavenderlady have had procedures done. At the moment both of them have not been so well, so have not been of the forum so much. I see you have already read some of Dorcas Posts which I hope you found helpful. If you use the search button at the top of the screen you will be able to follow some of the other posts on wrist ops.
Anyway nice to meet you and I hope to see you posting again soon.

Hi Tinaribena
welcome to the forum.
Pocket duty is where we all get together virtualy and jump in the pocket of the person who is going to an appointment. It could be the docs, rhummy or even when they go for an operation. It is just nice to think there are lots of people in your pocket giving you strength an confidence.
(and hey ...it works)
Sorry I can not give you tips in wrists though.
Take care juliepf x0 -
Hi Tina
Hello and welcome to the forum, I am sorry to hear of your forthcoming op, I have only experience of knee replacements, but, not wrist. I do wish you well and hope it settles down for you soon. John x0 -
Many thanks for all your lovely replies.
Eeeek stickywicket, knee replacements at 35 does not sound good
Pocket duty sounds like a brill idea - its nice to know that others are thinking of you (I joined another forum about 6 months ago - not a health one, a money one - and it has helped enormously to know that other people are going through difficult times and that you are not alone).
I will search previous threads on wrist ops as suggested.
I look forward to being around for a while....0 -

Brilliant, TinaRibena. One of the best things I ever did arthritically speaking. I had one of them replaced 2 years ago & still got the other 30 years on.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Tinaribena and welcome to the forum
I had a Wrist Replacement op (right wrist) last year...June...and had a Wrist Fusion op (left wrist) the previous year. Both ops were very successful and I'd not hesitate in recommending having either surgery!
I'm happy to give you any advice or info on TWR... so feel free to ask any questions you might have, and I'll do my best to answer.

Hi Tinaribena
Welcome to the forum, they are a good lot here.
I got both oa and pa slugging it out in my wrists and well they have lost a fair bit of flexation and turn over, the left now can't turn even to the half way mark.
They never offer surgery to me now a days but if they did I would jump at it except... for the weight restrictions.....
Mine are ( I guess) fusing them selves up just now cus of the lack of movement and at least with the surgery you will lose so much pain and not have them take the shape they chose which may or may not be a usable position... I'm working on mine to conform
Hey I had my fist diagnosis of oa in a joint in my teens so there is sadly no too young. It started as it meant to go on Nice to meet you. Cris x0 -
Hi Tinaribena
52 years is not young to arthritis ( I did think the same though), i'm 52 and have just had a THR just over 9 weeks ago. If they say you need to have one, go ahead and have one. It all aids to a more pain free life. Anyway, just wanted to say welcome to the forum. The arthritis varies widely on here as do the ages.
Hope to see you round the forum.
