    Hi Jean,
I am so sorry for your loss, You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that Friday goes well, or as well as these things can. I attended a memorial last Saturday, it was very sad but, I cherish all the lovely memories and drew comfort from that, as I hope you will too.

Thank you to everyone who was in my pocket. I could feel the strength coming from all of you, and from my family and friends. Everything went well, and I managed to read mum's poem. Mum was an opera singer (sang in a Royal Command Performance), and had the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. Here is her poem, written when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's:

To act upon life's open stage,
Is quite the thing to do.
But I prefer the make believe,
    To sing in the revue.

I love the acting, dancing, singing,
To applause when ears are ringing.
Bringing joy as the curtain rises,
    champagne parties, sweet surprises.

    Dressing up is so divine,
    Being someone else is fine.
But in the end I'll have to face it,
Life's open stage, will I disgrace it?

Or will it all have been worthwhile?
And will the Great Director smile?
Productions, directions, all part of the fun.
And on to the next show when this one is done.

What an utterly beautiful poem Jean, how appropriate too for your operatic Mum.
Well done for reading it, it must have been hard... I too a read a poem for a 6yr old's memorial, it's so important I think to honour those we loved in memoriam and to do so in verse written with them in mind is particularly poignant.
My love, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family x

    Thank you Poppy,

Mum wrote the verses herself. She was also a published poet, but this was done when she was diagnosed with Alzheimers, and knew she was dying.

    Hello Jean,

Your Mums poem was lovely. It must have been so hard reading that aloud especially when you knew your Mum wrote it after she knew she was dying.
You will have lots of lovely and happy memories that will increase daily.
I lost my lovely Dad just over 3yrs ago and I think of him every day and I remember things now, odd little things he did or said-sometimes I cry but mostly I smile. You will get through this.

    Thinking of you,

    Eileen xx
