Hiya, I have Crohn's and arthritis. They are linked as they are auto-immune diseases, same as many other illnesses.

I know another person with both and the rheumatology clinic I go to in Leeds has a combined clinic every so often with the Colitis specialist.

Hi from me too, don't worry about the amount of questions.. Lol

I'm not sure what IBD is.. I've got Sero-Negative plus IBS, my Rheumy nurse (in Leeds also as it happens, lol) told me that it well be the sero-neg that's causing the IBS... I haven't looked into it in any way shape or form but I'm recently diagnosed, about fifteen months now, something like that.

    Hope you get some answers..

I have rheumatoid arthritis and crohns disease which is a bit
of a bugger but the good news is that the medication helps
    both conditions.

    well its definately crohns.

they say the crohns has triggered the arthritis, as i have had bowel symptoms for a long time just didnt go to the doctors about it, due to embarrassment really.

i am still not on meds, but they need another meeting as i am actively trying for a baby and they want to know whats best for me, when i am pregnant my symptoms seem to go completely!

talk of steroids and some immune system suppressor, foget the name now, alfazine or something?anyway, nice to know im not on my own, thanks for all the replies xxx

    Hi Lare,

Sorry I am late but another with crohn's and arthritis. i got pa and oa and some talk intermittently of another as yet unnamed.

As Ichabod aid the drugs used controls both and its good your not on meds yet, especially if your hoping for a child. But its also good that its not raging to the point there is no choice but to whack you full of something.

Its a bit o a downer but just to say i have had the crohn's since 8 or 9 and the arthritis since a teenager and both have been relevantly kind to me so its not a forgone conclusion at all with either.

When mine has gone into full flare preds have always been very effective (my body doesn't like them though) so hopefully if thats what they decide on you will get a good long break.

Right with you re the embarrassment but Lare they can use the camera capsule if your lucky and thats totally intrusive except for the prep.

Fingers crossed they will get you on to some meds soon that will rally help you. Keep in touch though cus both are very isolating. Cris x

Hi Ichabod good to see you and hope your okish? xx

    thanks cris,

crohns n RA quiet at mo (eek hope im not tempting fate).
recently had a miscarriage so definately not taking any drugs, doc agrees as no major flare at mo.
had colonoscopy and biopsies confirm crohns in terminal ilieum, and barium meal was ok. (yukky yuk!).
inflammation markers still raised but symptoms not too bad.
hands and feet are effected worse with arthritis, so have to listen to my body when it says enough.

had my eyes looked at as they get sore too, good news no uveitis, just very dry so artificial tear drops help a bit with that.

my son has juvenile arthritis, on mtx and entarcept (sp).
cant help but feel my bad genes have passed it to him, hard not to feel responsible..
anyway, nice to talk on here
    :-)

    Hi Lare,

i am sorry about your miscarriage, I had a couple of those and know they can hurt but with luck next time you will be luckier. Will really hope for you there flower.

You know I know what you mean about your bad geans but you mustn't think that way. I and my sister had gene breakdowns when we were younger and they explained it to me that just because i had things wrong that might have hereditary links it didn't follow that had i been able to have kids they would have got it.

They said its lie throwing a bag of marbles on the floor and only if two certain colours ended up next to each other will things come out and thats totally random and never land the same.Your lad was unlucky but it doesn't mean its cus you have given him the geans. You mustn't think that way flower.

Bless him i hope he is doing ok there?

You hang in there and the terminal ilium... same place and they are now capsuling me to see just how many / if I got a few skip patches.... they talk about strictures as well but so fa i have always been lucky  When it flares though don't it hurt?!

hey i have now taken to just passing out... seems easier  Pain eh? Tis never good to have that intense agony but in fairness its the only thing that makes the bone pain seem light

Thankfully mine only kicks me now and then. Its branched out thought and done some damage to the oesophagus as well...... not sure which I prefer

Long may your keep quiet. You take care and don't take the blame for your lad cus it might be nothing to do with the geans flower. ((( ))) and hope you will keep in touch cus it is so isolating and like Elna I become totally house bound when it kicks but the mtx is holding it down fairly well though the sulfa I was on had it by the throat just my body didn't like the sulfa on bit  Cris x
