Hi

Well finally at about 1.15pm the letter dropped on our mat that I had been expecting about 2 months ago regarding my complaint at the hands of a surgeon at my local hospital who wanted to take out a kneecap and not tell me about this procedure. I was no consideration for TKR....
I will put this as politely as I can, but its a load of bull and for the time it took to compose this letter (one and a quarter pages), well its laughable if it wasnt so made up....
The first thing he brings up again is my age (hello can anyone change this, hell no) and then my weight and he is convinced that i would get deep infection and loss of movement. He also claims he has advised me extensively and criticised the reason i came on this site to ask about kneecap removal...The old ace keeps coming up too, the high tibial osteotomy, which has been discussed too apparently (nope me and dad at consultation and we dont remember this, two of us cant be wrong)...I didnt know what HTO was until coming across strachlachan and she told me - its a hammer and saw job to put it blunt and recovery time is just as much as TKR...Also he is now stating he doesnt feel my knee is bad enough for TKR again i wasnt told any of this - in short the guy spoke about 30 words in the 10 min appointment we had where he refused to answer any questions i wanted to ask him.....The best of all is that he says that he is sorry (wait for it) that I felt he was being negative (putting the onus on my perception of him) but we were never going to agree with each other...Now im a level headed person and even if i dont agree with people, if they give me information i can act upon then i can make my own informed decision, he didnt do that, he gave me zilch, may as well had an appointment with a statue!!
Im going to challenge this becuase he never gave me any information at all to make my decision, and everybody needs that in any decision they make in life be it big or small......I will not accept this behaviour and if they think they have queitened me they are wrong...I also have my dad who will say if i am being a little **** too so isnt biased who made hid own opinion of this so called professional.....
Shocking what they think is acceptable and how they try and justify it...

Oh dear what a dreadul letter. :!:

With the odd exception I do not like or respect Doctors, consultants etc.
    They're arrogant, insensitive and thoughtless.
Unfortunately it seems to go with the job description.
    Good luck pursuing this.

Hi Elaine, you go for it girl! As Mig says we shouldn't have to put up with it as we pay their wages. If you went private and saw him he would be falling over himself to be nice to you, so why should we take it just because we're NHS? I'd say 98% of consultants are like this, they think because they've reached this level they are some sort of gods and can do and say what they like, they have no respect for patients, then if you dare to stand up to them and complain they think all they have to do is write a letter justyfying why they behaved like that and we will go away, well they need to learn we won't!!! :x I'm sure everyone on here would agree and back you up, so don't let the b****r get away with it :!:

Sorry my post came up twice I think my laptop's gone a bit wonky, it's been acting up since last night, keeps telling me to login when I'm already logged in and on FB and e-mail, must be the weather, it's gone bonkers like it's owner.
Also meant to say I had similar problem with consultant last year, got a stupid letter excusing his behaviour but was lucky enough to get transferred to another consultant and everything is ok so far.

I remember sitting with my Grandma who was having another knee replacement (she was told that she was too old to have the replacement replaced - if you see what I mean?! - until she was a couple of weeks away from 90, then the docs said that the infection in her replaced knee would kill her if nothing was done!) and a 'doc' came in. The problem is is that in my hospital everyone wears scrubs to reduce infection but then everyone looks the same and you don't know if its a physio, surgeon or cleaner having a look at you! This particular doc walked in and without saying anything pulled the bedclothes back off my Grans legs and tried to take the pulse in her ankle. He then moved his hands further up. My Gran is of the generation where the doc is always right. At this point I said that if his hands go any further up he should at least introduce himself or buy her dinner!! Cue one very flustered doctor. Ha ha!!

    Hi Sue

I certainly dont treat them as gods, they are doing a job which i have paid my nhs contributions to allow them to work....Im afraid the attitude needs to change....The things that annoys me most is he is making out he was so helpful, most concerned for me - he couldnt give 2 hoots about me....

Hope you sort our your computer gremlins..

    Hi Jenzie

Well thats awful isnt it...Youre too old, too young, fat, thin...!!!I wont have that problem at least cos i wont make it to anywhere near your grans age...I know this cos yes im overwieght and it wont stand me in good stand for longevity but ive never been less than a size 16 all my life and they still wanted me thinner then..
Good on you for embarassing the doctor, sometimes we are just slabs of meat arent we?
