Hi guys, well my knees havent been too bad the last 2 weeks, more good days than bad, and its down to my going on the sunbed twice a week and the good weather we had, and the change in painkillers.

I am absolutely dying to start running again, i loved it so much, i have put on 7 stone since i stopped years ago. But obviously i think i would do more damage. But its killing me seeing people running soing lots of ecercise and that, i used to be in the gym every night.

Keep thinking, maybe that have got it wrong and i havent got OA in my knees, wishful thinking i know, but when you have a good period opf time when the pain isnt too bad it makes you think.

xx

    Oh Princes do be careful
We all do this on a lesser scale maybe.
Like having a good day and then deciding you can do more work than we have been doing and suffereing for it!!!!!!!.
Running is hard impact.....dont think you should be doing that. Why not see your doc....do you have a scheme where they will send you to a gym and have certin trainers trained to work with people who have illness of sorts {chronic illness} ...OK it might not get you back to running but would get you back to the gym

Hi, Its hard for you if you were such a fit person to have had to give it all up. I understand your frustration, but do be careful about going back to such a physically hard sport.

Have you spoken to your physio or GP about how you feel? I know that in this area we have a sports referral trainer that works in the ordinary gyme for 2 days a week, but you need a referral from your GP to before you start. That makes sure that you do exercises that help and don't damage, in your case your knees, in mine my back. I found it amazing how quickly I built up my muscle strength and could walk further and better.

I don't know how common these schemes are, but it would be worth asking rather than going it alone and hurting yourself. If you haven't got anything like this in your area, maybe you could see a physio who could give you an exercise programme to work on. Its pretty much excepted by everyone that the right exercise is good for you metally and physically, but it must be the right sort, especially in the early days.

Good luck and I hope you find something that is both fun and helps you get fitter. Love Suexxx

I can so understand where you are coming from, Princess but I really do hope that you will not rush into anything too fast. It is not like you stopped running a few months ago, you mentioned years and this rings alarm bells with me especially the reason why you stopped being oa of the knees.

I feel like the others that you should seek guidance about this from your gp or physio. Swimming or cycling would be so much kinder on your knees and/or attending a gym where the trainer is aware of your medical history.

I do hope that you are able to compromise with the medics on what kind of exercise is best for you.

The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

Hello princess935. Running is also my favorite and i do it regularly. I think you should discuss with your doctor that you want to do running again. I hope you will start doing running soon.

Oooooooo I am right there with ya girl! ;)

The things I would do to be able to run again... sigh...

I've just recently been given the 'okay' to do 'light' exercise.... swimming. Admittedly I've only been twice since then, but it's been such a relief to be able to do some form of exercise again :)

Have you thought about / do you go swimming?

    Slowly but surely eh?

Before you decide running again, you should consult for to a specialist to check the condition of your knees and you should get serious about it.

I'm another ex-runner so I know how you feel. I stopped running about 2 and a half years ago because it was too painful. My rheumie encouraged me to continue (I have RA) but it was too painful. I still see people out running and think I can still do it then I can hardly walk home from work. Did you start going to the gym?

    Hi

I've started Aqua Fit today and would very much recommend it. Excellent for joints. We had to run in the water as part of the session! But, best to check with your Dr first, of course.
