Regretful Friday

Hi
On friday after a friend's recommendation I went for a free trial to another gym as was concerned the one I attend is not giving me best exercises. Im now in deep regret for the following reasons:-
Went in and saw bloke in his 20's who have me a leaflet entitled "exercising with arthritis" which may be helpful if you are trying to prevent it but not if you have it in my opinion....My condition doesnt respond to cold/warmth packs.....
He struggled to give me any exercises, most in main gym I could not either get up to, down to sit low enough, stand on one leg (bad leg stops me doing this on both) or being able to in his words "sit, lie down, kneel or stand on one leg".......I told him i only hd 30% bend in my leg but it wasnt going in....He put me on a cross trainer which i found very difficult, a treadmill and put it right up to 7.0 incline and speed of 4.2!!!I also got given dumbbells which are at last twice my own (2 x 5lb) and I told him at one stage "youve got to be joking mate"..It nearly toppled me off my feet....Im now in so much pain, am hobbling about and my leg feels broken, can only describe as last time over 2 years ago when i danced before condition got worse and next day was like broken too....
I have sent an email to said gym and got one back off this guy stating he was limited as i was, well why didnt he decline to see me? It wouldve been better!!!
Really fed up now, not sure what to do and we have visitors, mum has gout or cellulities so she is hobbling too, we have autistic nephew, its too hot and to top it off last night was up 02.30 - 04.45 with awful sickness/indigestion/burping sensations.......Life cant be much more of a pig right now can it????

Hi Elaine
I am so sorry to read about your experience at the other gym your friend recommended. Well, at least you know you will definitely not be returning there and perhaps it has put the other gym and trainer in a better light for you. At least you have not felt like that after a session. There is that saying it never rains but it pours and it appears to be very bad timing for this to unfortunately have happened, especially when you have visitors and so on.
I do hope that you feel much better soon,

Aw Elaine
What a terrible experience for you. This personal trainer clearly had no idea what he is doing and should have declined you if he did not have any experience working with people with Arthritis. I really dont have any good advice for you but just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you when you are feeling so down and hope you feel a bit better, both physically and emotionally, very soon xxBig Hugs

Hi Elna
Ive never felt this bad with pain for ages, honestly not even when my leg first started to deteriorate....I should have maybe cut the session short myself..
The sicky thing is so annoying more than anything else, was a pathetic state trying to be sick, pacing....

Hi Jean
No he claimed to have experience in dealing with knee problems, he probably means sports injuries...Its attached to a hotel the gym and think they benefit more from that custom...

Hi Elaine,
I'm sorry you are in such a state...apart from pain lack of sleep is dreadful.
I take it you will go back to your regular gym when you are fit enough?
As you say.....he might be experienced in knees but not in arthritis by the sound of it.
I'll send you a cyber kick up the bum Stick to your own gym.
Then I'm also sending you lots of gentle hugs((((((((((())))))))))) take care petal

Hi Elaine,
I'm wary of any gyms. I just stick to the leaflets I get from NRAS or AC or swimming in the hydrotherapy pool. Very few trainers understand arthritis.Best to go back to the old one.
There is a sick bug going round....daughter was sick all over my bed last week, OH had a bout and today Dans carer phoned up sick too.
Hope your Nephew is okay, strange places, different routines and hot weather are not a nice mixture and Mum being unwell- I know all about that. Does Nephew like water? My son loves to splash although today we had constant music so he wouldn't go out.
Oh dear I don't expect you are getting much rest and peace.

Hi Elizabeth
Well its just my friend said it was so much better....But it was my decision to try it out....
I havent been sick but still not right, im rarely like this...Had plenty gaviscon type stuff to be on safe side...
Nephew is fine but god he is a constant eating machine there is barely an hour in his waking day where he doesnt eat something and its all sugary, carbohydrates...He does love swimming but nobody can take him, ive got my hydro pool...

Hi Elaine
Im so sorry to hear this, you were doing so well, when I worked at the gym , we used to ask for a GPs letter asking where the Arthur was and how bad, knees are a real problem for gyms and he should have declined to see you without proper information off your GP.
I do hope you feel better very soon, the acid on your stomach is probably due to stress coming form the pain.
You take care xLove

Hi Elaine
The waiting to be sick can be worse than being sick I think and as for this weather....its so humid. Horrible!!!!!
If you had thunder maybe thats it....the weather will break and it will be cooler and that will help......I know I always feel very "headachy" in this weather
Take care

If it dosnt clear up you go and see your GP just in case you have picked up a bug.
Has for the gym, they should never have taken you on if they wernt qualified to deal with such knee injuries.
You let us know how you get onLove

Hi Barbara
Well whatever it was im not sicky now but it was awful being in bathroom wanting to be sick but couldnt do it, kept burping and feeling gas/acid in my chest....I knew nobody could help me but dad was up seeing how i was...Ended up pathetic with Woody but we eventually lay on left side and got sleepy...
My knee isnt too bad today but yesterday it took me 40mins to walk the 10mins up to shop and back, two people asked if i was okay, stopped at lamposts....It defintely was the bad gym app,no doubt about it, so badly equipped that place!!
Im desperate to get down to target weight, trainer said may not actually be eating enough, to eat little and often and watch what fruits am having, maybe mango and grapes too high in sugar...Im going to doc in week to ask to see dietician....
Thanks for hugs...
Elainex
Hi Elaine...the sickness could very well be form the stress, the pain must be awful, I know you said it was the worst you had felt it.

It is such a shame nobody can take him. My son has cut down swimming due to his Nan, who used to take him, being 'too busy'(looking after her other grandchild). I am now paying a carer to take him swimming as he is also a big,big eater of unhealthy, fatty foods and he never stops.special needs carers are not cheap and need to be trustworthy. I am lucky to have found a great carer but I know many do not.tkachev wrote:Hi Elaine,
