Right thumb problems update

Hello Everyone
I posted on this forum a few months ago asking for advice on my problematic thumb joint and I said that I would let you know how I got on.
I have now had my follow up visit to the consultuant surgeon who after due consideration advised that I was too young to have the bone removed (as I am of pension age I did not think that I would be too young for anything anymore!!) and should continue as at present with some advice from an occupational therapist, which I have now had.
Overall I am happy that the surgeon is correct as over the past few months I have adapted to the limitation by eg using the computer mouse left handed and finding pens that I can hold without straining the joint. I have a splint to wear if I am doing gardening etc and overall the OA does not cause me any major problems now.
Thanks very much for you imput earlier which was much appreciated, and I hope some others will have the same outcome as me.
Regards to all

Well, that certainly sounds a little more positive, donjohn, I am glad that you have been able to make some adaptations to the way you do things and that the splint helps. We have to be a resourceful and creative bunch from time to time! I find Yoropens very comfortable - I occasionally have hurty hands and wrists, not the same as you I admit, but I do find my Yoros good when I have to handwrite summat. I wish you well and thanks for the update. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Don,
Great to hear from you again. thanks for the update and it is encouraging to read that you are coping without surgery. It is amazing how we do adapt to things. I bet it was a bit of a struggle using the left hand for the mouse but soon it will be second nature to you.
