swollen feet?

Anyone got experience with feet swelling up? I have RA and my feet have started swelling more than they ever have ( 13+ years in ). No pain. Not sure if this means i'm having a flare, as the joints aren't hurting. One pair of shoes will still fit. Just! Am going to the GP and will find out if my blood tests have revealed anything, and I'm lying with my feet up the wall every day, moving a bit, resting a bit - any other thoughts? Suggestions welcome.

The only graphic description I've seen about this is in Kathleen Turner's book 'Give yourself Roses'. ( We've so much in common. Ha! ) and it's not what you'd call comforting. It may well calm down - but I do want to avoid increasing medication if I possibly can.

    my feet hurt...
i've had plantar fisicitis, and and extremely painful ankles but it stays for weeks/months then just goes, also get a lot of pain in my big toes....
but generally with no pains or anything going on knowingly they swell up everyday, i am always sitting in a recliner char with my feet up, the swelling goes up my shins, i have awful legs as u can see how dried the skin is even when ive moisterised them, but when swollen theyre all shiney and fit to burst....
this last week my daughter has been setting up a foot spa for me, cant have bath or shower as bathroom being redecorated and my hand rails have been taken down...
i have stuck to one type of sandal and have 3 pairs, my family waned me to get some new ones for our holiday in 5 weeks... derrr dont they understand??? new shoes means more pain and swelling so old comfy ones will do... they dont look bad they just think i should treat myself... lol
    love and hugs

Hello, sorry you have swollen feet, I know that not only are they uncomfortable, but they make shoes hard to choose, as the size thats comfortable, changes! Mine swell now and I don't know if its my OA or just one of those things, I'm 57.

I try to buy shoes that can be altered across the toe joint, or in my case, bunion!!! You can get some that don't look too old fashioned. The down side is that they tend to be more expensive.

Hope you can find something to suit you as painful feet can get on your nerves! :x  Love Sue

Ta to all for replying - and no, buying new shoes isn't a treat, more of a major undertaking! Once you find some that work it's worth getting two pairs, I reckon, and then wearing them till they fall apart. Sometimes I dye them to give them a new lease of life - don't use the sprays, they're useless and hard on the fingers. You can get wee bottles of basic colours from shoe shops and paint it on.

The A.Care helpline ( bouquets for them! ) were really quick and helpful when I emailed them and said the feet could be swelling because I'd walked more and napped less last week and also it can be DEHYDRATION! Who knew? I was away and not drinking as much as I do at home. So I'm knocking back the water and getting foot rubs whenever possible, from myself if no one else around, putting my feet up and trying not to overdo things.
Good to be in touch and thanks evetryone

    Hi Liz,

I would also mention it to the doc cus there are so many reasons why the feet swell.

The resting and elevation and drinking lots hopefully will do the trick cus swollen feet are hard sometimes to get into shoes and boots... side glance at mine that wont ware slippers today  Hope they soon go down. Cris x
