Blue Badge Stolen From Car

Two weeks ago my blue badge was stolen from our car. It was taken from the car when we were in Wimborne. Apparently this happens right across the country with badges being 'sold on' to people who have no need of them.
What a horrid thing to do.

I had to report it to the Police station in Wimborne to get a crime number before notifying the local authority in Fareham. We were in Wimborne visiting family.

Has this happened to anyone else? It's made life very difficult this past couple of weeks not having my badge. I have difficulties getting in and out of my car and having to park in normal bays has been a nightmare.

This really upset me. I'm waiting for my new badge to arrive but will make sure I take extra precautions and ensure that I leave nothing in my car for them to steal. They got disturbed and could have stolen the Sat Nav and the tax disc.
Take care when you're out and about. Some badges are even stolen outside people's front doors. Don't leave your badge on display in your car overnight - take it indoors. Mind you when they're stealing them from disabled parking bays what can you do? I didn't have much choice the day I parked. My car was next to some shrubs and away from any buildings.

    Hi Sharmaine

What a horrible thing to happen - how can people be so heartless?

Really hope your new badge arrives soon.

    Hi,
You can buy holders for blue badges that lock onto the steering wheel(I think it's the steering wheel).
It only holds the main bit and not the clock bit.
It might put the thieves off a bit.

I'm sorry to hear that, Sharmaine. ((((hugs)))) People can be so nasty. :( It's really unfair, even more so when they prey on vulnerable people.

Fingers crossed that your new badge arrives soon.

    Hi
Thanks guys. Just be careful with your badges!

Where can you buy these lockable badge holders? My badge was in a wallet they took the whole thing. Rotten hooligans. GRRRR.........

The badges have our car registration numbers and photos they must be removing this information pasting theirs on. I'm just cross because it had my signature on the badge. Supposed they try and forge that????

I'll have a look online for the lockable holder.

If I see anyone suspicious hanging around the disabled bays I'm going to report it to the police.

Go to radar-shop.org.uk and click on blue badge products to see a steering wheel lock . This happened to me a few years ago from outside our home . It really does destroy any remaining faith in human nature that you have ! Sadly , I now mistrust everybody . Jillyb

Sorry to hear that you have been the target of this awful crime. Some people just dont care about others. In fact I have found that people only tend to care about people they know rather than anyone else.

I hope that you get the badge sorted out soon. It is not fair on anyone to have to deal with this sort of crime. The only people who are likely to make any use of the badge are druggies who are trying to get cash and then selling the badge on to their dealers. I hate to say it but these are the sort of people who are more interested in themselves.

    Take care

They are popular things to be stolen. I never keep mine in the car and yes it's the RADAR shop that sells the locks. I think they are about £30, but that is well worth the extra security they offer. You can get a double one, I believe, one for the badge and one for the clock. Sharmaine, I am so very, very sorry. What a blasted (and unnecessary) nuisance. DD

    Hi Sharmaine
I'm so sorry to hear about this....when I first got mine my son warned me about this stealing of badges....hadnt even thought about it at the time.
If you are parked there isnt much you can do about it.....you do need it??????? Were you using it at the time??????
I havent the memory DD has...if i didnt keep mine in the car I wouldnt remember to take it with me but I do hide it in the glove box {if you can call that hiding} when its not in use.
What sort of people do this??? I hope your new one comes soon
    Love

Sharmaine, so sorry to hear about your theft, sadly, people steal them and sell them on for a lot of money, somewhere I read that they can get over a £1000 for each one
Goodness knows how they do it, but, they seem to put a new picture in. A sad reflection of our society, people will steal anything, regardless of how it leaves the victim feeling.
I always carry mine in my bag, but, you have to display it, so we are always a target, in any car park or street. I will look out for the lock, for mine.
    Shame on them.

    Hi Sharmaine,

how terribly annoying and inconvenient. My parents and sister live in Wimborne. Where were you parked?

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi everyone

Thanks for advice and sympathies. Rotten scoundrels.

Speedy: I was parked in the disabled bays near some shrubbery in Walford Mill's car park. I don't think they have CCTV in the car park. I did report it to them.
Very annoying end to what was an otherwise very enjoyable day. I went there to do a basket plaiting course. We have lots of family in Poole/Wimborne too!
    They were not impressed either.

I now have my new badge. I'm extra vigilant now.

It shows what type of society we live in now. Some people have no respect for the property of others. The recent riots are a good example.
