    Hey DD

"Yikes" would probably be my first reponse too  but I am so glad you finally have your appointment. At least you will then have more of an idea of what's what, rather than being in limbo.

I'll be there in your pocket too on Friday (if I can find room in amongst the other peeps and the menagerie)

Je suis crying. You lovely, lovely people, thank you so much for all your messages of support. I will, basically, be wearing a gazebo-type garment to make sure you can all fit with comfort, dogs, Ark, big lads (cor! I like big lads! ) crutches and all. I must confess that I am not the slightest bit apprehensive, if anything I am excited. Daft or what? The conversation will probably go summat like this.

Him. 'Ye gods woman, how have you coped with this degree of OA in both knees for so long and with such grace?' (Of course he will say that. )

Me. 'I don't know, one just does.'

Him. 'Yup, you urgently need surgery, I can fit you in for August 2013.'

Me. 'I can take any cancellation slot, I can be at the hospital in five minutes.'

Him. 'That is a cancellation slot.'

    Me. 'Oh.'

I can't wait. This time next week I will be on my way to the hospital for the third day in a row. I know how to live. DD

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

It's indeed a light of some sort, but a new knee (or two) may not necessarily help the ankles, won't help the toes or sacros, and as for the rest of it . . . . . but it should help the overall quality of life, yes? I am feeling uncharacteristically flat. Got me heart's desire and just feel, 'So what?' Boot up the Harris required, please. DD

Oh dear dear dd... here goes......

    k070.gif

Come on my lovely.......positive attitude here please.

The new knee (s) will make a difference and may even reduce pain in ankles and toes cause you will not be walking to compensate for your knee pain.

I send you some positive tthoughts and hope that you feel better as your day goes on

    Take care
    Love Juliepf x

Bless you but that is far too kind and much too gentle. I have no idea what is up with me, I can only put it down to the fact that my left knee is really giving me gip. Grrrr. DD

Bless you Barbara, truth to tell I am not scared, not in the slightest. I never have been and never will be 'cos, despite everything that has happened in the past I still believe that doctors and appointments and surgeons are there to help, and sometimes they actually do! I think it's the uncertainty that is getting at me, the fact that he might turn round and say 'For crying out loud woman, I have some seriously ill/affected patients on my list, don't waste my time.' I must remember to take my ice-gripper sticks. Just in case.

Ah, Mr DD has just brought me a pint of Black Sheep in my Barry-the-Otter glass, that is utter perfection. (Barry-the-Otter glass was bought in Beer - yes it IS a place, in November 2008, in honour of the local Otter Brewery.)

Ye gods. I don't know where I am or what I think. Flamin' Norah. Roll on 168 hours hence, I may have a clearer idea by then. DD
