Less fluid = more pain?

Good morning!

I've noticed my ankle pain has got worse. The ortho noticed swelling on my MRI scan so did an arthroscopy at the same time as removing a lump of bone. I don't think it's pain from the surgical area because the pain is around the area where they did the arthroscopy. It does hurt around the incision but over the last week, the actual ankle is bothering me more than ever.

Could it be that I'm experiencing a grinding/rubbing pain because the fluid isn't protecting it anymore? Does that even make sense?

Thank you,
Sophie x

Yup, that does make sense. I have had a number of knee aspirations that shifted fluid but the pain never decreased. I put that down to joint damage from the PA and now the presence of OA. I think the same is true of my right ankle: the registrar tried to aspirate it last Monday week (no joy, ankles are reluctant to part with their fluid) so she steroided it instead. Fine for three days, pain now back in spades. That's life with arthritis. Keep up with the dullers and I hope things ease soon. DD

    Hi Sophie

oh poor you  I can also see what you are saying making sense, but if l were you next time l saw anyone l would ask their opinion.

Tis also my opinion that swelling and level of pain do not match...even though they sometimes say....'there's not much swelling' Hmmphhh!

    Love
