2 LETTERS FROM THE "GENERALIST"

Hi......Just had that appointment with him last Wed and this morning {Sat} 2 letters arrived...not actually to me but they send me copies of letters that come from the hospital..These 2 were for the GP
Here we go again and I wont blame anyone for falling asleep in the middle of it
She called him a generalist...his title on the notepaper is ConsultantPhysician and Garisrtrician......still never heard of it
He says...DIAGNOSIS
Abnormal liver function tests,
Bone pain with abnormal pelvis x ray
Generalised osteoarthritis
Unexplained iron deficiiency anaemia.
Says....an x ray in June suggests a sclerotic region in the right area as well as abnormality of the left superior pubic ramus which might be suggestive of a fracture althought the historyis a bit odd for that..
Got an elevated alkaline phosphatease and a gamma GT.
Myeloma screen is negetive as was chest x ray. Ultrasound scan...I've had a look at it and it doesnt look normal, she has a dilated common bile duct at 11mm with some dilated intrahepatic ducts. She is off her food and just feeling out of sorts.
She clearly has something going on here although difficult to be sure exactly what.
I'm going to organise a bone scan. I have repeated the liver function tests as well as some auto antibodies and if these remain abnormal I suspect she may need an MRCP looking at the ducts to see if there are any strictures.
SECOND LETTER TO GP
I have reviewed her investigations with the Radiologist. She confirms that the scan shows significantly dilated ducts and with her gallbladder stuffed full of gallstones one wonders whether she might have a tiny gallstone at the bottom of the common bile duct to account for the liver function tests which remain abnormal {His words.....gallbladder stuffed full of gallstones doesnt sound very technical }
I am going to organise an mRI scan/MRCP to see if there are any strictures or blockages. Regarding the abnormal pelvic x ray...Dr Robson is sure that the abnormality in the pubic ramus is a fracture and wonders whether there is actually a sacral insufficiency fracture on the left hand side.
Thats more or less it......I dint know if any of you know more than me I'm going to have to do a lot of googling Had plenty of MRI's does anyone know what an MRCP is?

Wow Hileena
Thats a lot to take in. To be honest I cant really make head nor tail of it and would be online trying to make sense of it all as well. I googled MRCP and it says (Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography, in medical imaging, a technique to visualise the biliary tract and pancreatic ducts) Does that help? Probably not.
I hope you can find out what all the technical terms mean and maybe your wonderful GP could expain things to you so that you could understand it all. Good luck with the research of all the technical stuff.
Hope you are having a good weekend xxBig Hugs

Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) is a medical imaging technique that uses magnetic resonance imaging to visualise the biliary and pancreatic ducts in a non-invasive manner.[1] This procedure can be used to determine if gallstones are lodged in any of the ducts surrounding the gallbladder.Big Hugs

Hi Jean
Thanks...thats the one I got.....basically sounds a bit like and MRI but it particularly views bile ducts.....or something like that
I dont usually look things like that up on the internet.....you can scare yourself sometimes The letter is for my GP not me so it is going to be more technical......I assume she will receive it on Monday and I might hear from her sometime in the week.

Hi Hileena,
Tis good that jean has confirmed what we thought eh? It will be so much better when you have a definite diagnosis and then you can start to deal with it all but in the mean time try not to get too stressed as that ain't going to help you at all.
Tea, no sugar and a bit of saffron for the hell of it Love and a ((((( ))))) Cris xx0 -

Morning Hileena
Gosh I bet you wish you hadn't opened the letters.
There was a lot of writing there you need to read it a few times to let it sink in.
Hope you are ok this morning and manage to have a good sunday.
Take care

Hi Julie
No I'm glad I opened the letters....couldnt keep letter that were addressed to me just sitting and I'm one of those people that wants to know everything about whats wrong with me and what they are doing etc.

Hileena, I am the same
I do shake though as I open the letters and normally read so fast I have to read it again.
You are quite right, you do need to know whats going on, there is nothing worse than being left in the dark.

MRCP = Mounted Riding Canadian Policeman. Cor! You gonna get one of them? I am deeply, deeply, envious.
On a more serious note, I reckon it all sounds good. Gallstones are nasty little blighters (lucy145 had trouble with those earlier this year) and they could well be causing all the trouble. Well done to the journalist. The boy (and your doc) done good. Good luck with it all - I'll be available for pocket duties as and when. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi Cris,
Just answered your pm. Yes you do have big mice
Hi Barbara....I might know a bit more eventually but at the moment I'm in the dark as much {if not more than any of you} Thats why I typed some of the letter as he had sent it I couldnt shorten it because I didnt know what half of it meant
Hi DD......I wish!!!!!!!! never thought of that
They are nasty yes...... Its about ?????? years ago that I had dreadful pain {just out of the blue} I was riding a motorbike and on my way home from nursing when it happend After a 12 hr shift all I usually wanted was to get home. But I changed direction and went straight to the nearest casualty.....They kept me in and did loads of tests.....sent me home after 3 or 4 days with a dreadful diet....no dairy food etc....this is a veggie they are talking to  Apparently it was my gall bladder but they didnt actually do anything apart from this diet The pain eased after a few days and after another few days...... nothing...... so I had a milky coffee.....OOOOhhhhh!!!! what a pain......but I dont learn.....after another week or so with no pain I did this again. I cant remember how long this lasted but eventually it went and I've been back on a normal diet for many years now.

Hileena, I’m sorry I’ve not been there for you recently. Lots of stuff at this end keeping me quiet but I’ve been thinking of you every day and hoping all goes well with your new medic, General Whatsisname. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

All I can do now is wait.....I've got an eye appointment at the hospital on Tues {nothing to do with all this} so that will come first....
Hope things are going oK for you

Well, what can I say, I , I don't understand most of what's in the letters, hope you are gradually finding out more. And at least he seems to be on the ball about getting you sorted out. How about contacting your gp, they will know all the jargon.
In the mean time plenty of hugs for you.
