Hi all

I'm taking two co-codomol (8/500) four times daily along with one ibuprofen (400) three times daily as prescribed by my doctor a couple of weeks back for OA in my hands, feet and knees - but mainly for my hands. I take the tablets at breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime.

Now a few times this last week, at work, I've experienced acute pain in my hands in the afternoon, about an hour and a half to two hours after my lunchtime dosage. This pain is quite acute and something I'm not accustomed to ... I've felt close to tears and very frustrated when it occurs. The frustration comes somewhat from the fact I'm already at my maximum dosage of the pain dullers available ... what can I do???

Scozzie

Hi, I suppose you have tried all the usual home remedies? Heat or ice, gels and creams available OTC.

If so make an appt at your gp, there are so many types of painkillers available, its just a case of trial and error as to what works for you.

Hope it improves for you soon.

It may be time to up the strength of the cocos. I am on 30/500 for day-to-day use, I think there is an intermediate stage but I cannot remember the dose: 15/500 maybe? Go to your GP and explain what is happening and I hope they will duly respond with better dullers. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Hi, I'm sorry that you're in pain.

As already mentioned perhaps it's time to review your medication-get an appointment asap as there are other meds you can try.

I use co co's at 30/500 for day to day and also take 150mg of amiltriptyline at night time. Hope you get this sorted soon, I hope your GP gets it sorted soon.

As I've read on here lots before-the pain never really disappears but you should have some significant improvement if you're prescribed something a bit stronger. I found this sight so very helpfull, I had all but given up when I stumbled on this sight whilst looking on the net for some hope.

Take good care and hope to hear from you again soon.

    Hi Scozzie

you can get co-cos in 8/500 and 16/500 and 30/500 so if l were in your shoes l would get back to the doc for advice. The last two are available only on prescription.

    Love and hugs

Well I can't say much more, everyone has said it for me, go back to your gp. I was on those then I went to tramadol, and ibuperfen, they work quiet well.
