My brother many years ago worked for a company that did cake mixes and the likes...the same Pancake mixed was used for lesser known supermarket as was used for the well known brand of supermarket...but, the prices in the store were definately different!! Believe what you see? Buy what you believe? Makes you think doesn't it? John x0

Thorntons are all Marks and Spencers chocs and many more companies do that as well.
Although can't beat the real brand beans, cornflakes and choc! xAS Sufferer

Own-brand washing powder (although I prefer Fairy it's just too pricey for stuff that goes down the drain, the same applies to cream cleaner and bleach).
Eating-wise, there is nothing wrong with value (Tesco)/basics (sainsbriz)/essentials (waitrose, we don't have one) veg, once it's prepared and cooked who cares if it wasn't perfect to start with? Own brand meat and fish is OK too, as long as you don't just pick up the first pack that comes to hand, it's worth searching thro for better.
Soup HAS to be Heinz, or (in a flush month) Baxters. Even better, however, is home-made. Other tinned own brands are OK but tinned fish has to be in spring water or brine, not ghastly sunflower oil. Table sauces have to be the 'proper' ones, brown sauce has to to be HP, salad cream Heinz (none of your reduced calorie dross either, thank you very much) but tomato sauce now has to be Adnams. (Our local brewery has branched out into the foodie market (that says a deal about Southwold!) but it is far, far better than Heinz.
Biscuits? I rarely buy those but I have just discovered Oreos. Cor. Ice cream has to be a 'luxury' make, Mackies or Kelly's Cornish Clotted. The latter is truly better than - well, you know what - yup, a cuppa. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
I used be the sort of person who bought everything with the correct name - only ever Heinz, Kellogs, batchelors, etc; BUT and this is a very big but
I have since not being in work, been living on benefits and making things stretch has been a lot harder for me. However, I now buy things that are cheaper, look for the bargains, and buy own brands.
I am still a bit of a brand freak when it comes to table sauces; bread and baked beans.
I have learnt through my hubby that nothing has to be perfect. The way I was brought up meant that my opinion of shopping was buy the best. Now its buy what you can afford and most of the time it is better than the named.
My only bug bear was with one particular supermarket - everything was in yellow packets in the freezer and I couldnt work out what I was going to be eating LOL
I have even changed supermarkets after doing a online price comparison - they really are cheaper. On one shop I saved over £50 so I was convinced!!Jaki0 -
I always make my own soup, tomato, potato and leek ,if i buy a gammon joint i boil it and use the stock to make a veg soup.adsa smart price biscuits are nice but if we splurge then its mc----choc digestives.i first had oreos in america when my eldest son and family lived there.we must have heinz beans and brand named sauces too.i do my shopping online with asda we do not have a car (neither of us drive)so its easier for us.dont eat much ice cream but i do like choc mint chip.Mig0

I love certain things from Aldi - their eye cream is fab plus they do a cheap version of YSL's 'touche eclat' - you can't tell the difference! Their washing powder & cleaning products are great. Plus every week they have different fruit/veg for 69p. This week was blueberries so I got 3 packs. I get their fruit juice, smoothies & muesli. You can save a BOMB by getting certain things in Aldi.
Their booze ain't half bad either! My husband is a bit of a brand snob & exclaimed, "What's this **** you've bought?!" when he clapped eyes on an Aldi bottle of whiskey. Next news, he'd supped half of it & had gone to bed all smiles.
We were roaring laughing at work last week as I pulled out a 'Seal' bar (Penguin) & a pack of 'Cheese Thins' (Mini Cheddars) from my bag. They tasted exactly the same!0 -
The majority of the time we always buy Tesco branded stuff. Occasionally we do have a branded but always go back to Tesco's

Always buy pasta & spaghetti from the value ranges it's just as good. Same goes for skimmed milk, tinned tomatoes and flour. My family also prefer Tesco's value teacakes (the marshmallow ones with choc on).
For storecupboard stuff, do two imaginary shops online. One using branded and the other using value products. You'll be amazed at how much you can save.
Cornflakes have to be Kellogs though and beans have to be Branston.0 -

Aldi's anti-frizz hair serum is also good. Their feminine hygiene products are half the price (if not more) of premium brands yet exactly the same. Had their luxury nut muesli too - fabulous - cashew nuts, brazils - yummy. Trying out their fish body oil (omega 3) tablets this week - no horrible after effects like with some (eg fish tasting burps!!).
They have got fruit / veg for 39p this week!! I love ALDI! PS I heard that MCV make most of their biscuits. My friend works in the cosmetics industry & said Aldi's Lacura brand is good.
This week I also bought their Wrinkle Stop cream - it claims to contain an ingredient simliar to snake venom (bit like botox). Giving it a whirl on forehead lines!!!0 -

I like making my own soups when get the time. I like doing minestrone. I just fling a load of veg plus cannelini beans in with a tin of chopped tomatoes, tomato puree & veg stock. The secret is to add in a 'bouquet garni' - Schwarz do a box of four sachets. Break up some spaghetti into it 15 mins from end et volia! I like to serve with grated mature cheddar on top.
Carrot & red lentil is another easy one. Celery & potato....0 -

seems most only eat Kelloggs cornflakes which I totally agree with along with Nestle shreddies and clusters only proper weetabix and shredded wheat and ready brek as well, only ever Mc Vities digestive any others are never any good, along with kingsmill or hovis bread lurpak butter cadburys chocolate yorkshire t bags are a great find recently instead of pg tips, being a vegitarian hubby will only eat expensive sausages and burgers , but things like beans and soups tinned fruit washing powder dishwasher and cleaning stuff ( except Flash and lenor which is gorgeous) are all own makes , not keen on Lidl food stuff though
certain food you can only eat the best but make up for it by eating cheaper versions of different brand food, the best tom sauce has tobe Tescos only 35p a big bottle as well compared to nealry £2 for Heinz big big difference,0
