Soooooo Embarrasing

What a day I have had. Got up bright and early as our car was going in for a service. Got to the dealership and as usual I headed straight for the toilet (weak bladder I think). As I was walking across the lovely tiled floor my crutch slid and I came crashing down, I was sprawled like a starfish on the showroom floor. My husband who was at the service desk came running over and helped me up, I was so embarrassed and wished the ground would swallow me. One of the staff brought a chair for me and offered a cup of tea. I managed to get to the toilet with my husbands help and noticed in the store cupboard next to the toilet there were cones with "Caution Slippery Floor", I wonder why these warning cones were in the cupboard and not out on the showroom floor. I was quite shaken up and have hurt my arm, hip and neck. I went to A&E and they think it is soft tissue damage and have advised I take loads of painkillers, ibuprofen and rest for at least a week. If things dont improve I have to go straight back and they will have another look at me. My biggest problem is that I cant use my crutches as my arm is too sore at the moment so I am going to be grounded for a few days. I am angry that this floor was slippy and there were no warning signs and to be honest the staff couldnt get rid of me quick enough and certainly didnt offer any medical assistance. I wish these big companies would be more mindful of people with mobility difficulties. It is quite ironic that this company is the biggest Motability dealer in our area. I think I will be phoning their head office to lodge a complaint first thing in the morning. Rant over and thanks for listening xx
Big Hugs

Oh Jean
That sounds awful!
I would definitely recommend that you make a complaint. I tripped over a step in a flooring shop a few years ago (before my RA) and went crashing into a stack of laminated flooring - got a black eye and nearly knocked myself out! I went back the next day and they had put a warning notice over the step by then.. they were very worried I would sue them.. In fact they offered me the bedroom flooring free of charge as a goodwill gesture - so I took it!
I hope you have a restful night.. no doubt by tomorrow you will be even more sore and stiff and bruised though.

Accidents happen but this sounds like one that could have been avoided. Shame on a Motability dealer. Don't phone, phone conversations get 'forgotten' unless you can record it and I would not know how. I would put the complaint in writing, keep a copy and send Recorded Delivery, one to the dealership and one to Head Office: expensive no doubt but that wil stop them from saying they did not get your letter. I am so sorry, I know from recent experience that falls cause a deal of trouble, you rest up my girl and I hope you feel better soon. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Oh Jean, That awful.....and so careless of them.....Yes phone calls get forgotten and letters go missing but make sure you send one to the shop and one to head office and as DD says recorded deliver and keep a copy yourself.
Good Luck with this and let us know what happens

Thanks everyone
I will get everything down on paper tomorrow and sent to the dealership and the head office by recorded post. Its so true that these companies deny things that are said over the phone, it has happened to me before. I just get angry as the staff tried to say that my crutches were probably wet but it wasnt even raining. I have used crutches for eleven years now and if its raining outside I always dry my crutches before walking on uncarpeted flooring. They made me feel as if I was a bit stupid.Big Hugs

thats terrible... at least its logged with the hospital now so there is proof if it goes further down the line... i tell u something if it were me the air wouldve been blue and i wouldve had such a hissy fit!!!
dont let things lie get the letters done!!! if at the very least it stops it happening again is the best outcome but shouldnt have happened in the first place... glad you didnt break any bones! mind u soft tissue damage is just as bad if not worse! takes longer then a broken bone sometimes to heal...
